ABOUT THE ROLE
ZS’s Data Strategy and Data Office has two pillars. First, we advise clients across sectors — including MedTech, Health, Travel & Hospitality, and other data-intensive industries — on all matters related to enterprise Data Strategy. As data volumes expand and AI reshapes business models, Data Strategy has become a critical, board-level priority. The team supports clients in defining data vision and mission, designing operating models and data organizations, establishing governance and stewardship frameworks, shaping data sourcing and generation strategies, enabling robust data architecture and cataloging capabilities, and driving compliant value creation. In close collaboration with our Digital and Technology practice, we diagnose and execute data strategies, helping clients build data capabilities and products that drive competitive advantage. The second pillar, Data Office, focuses on building and managing strategic relationships with a wide range of data providers to enable differentiated access to data and power innovative ZS offerings and services.
The Data Strategy Associate Consultant will be located close to one of our East Coast U.S. offices and will help deliver world-class solutions that shape and execute enterprise data strategies, primarily in the MedTech, Health Insurance, or Travel & Hospitality sectors. This includes developing data organizations and Data Offices, designing governance and operating models, strengthening AI-ready data foundations, driving data portfolio optimization and value realization, and leading hands-on delivery of data programs. This individual will have high visibility within the firm and will work collaboratively with the broader Data Strategy team across the Americas, Europe and India, as well as with colleagues across multiple practice areas (e.g., Research and Development Excellence Digital Strategy, Technology Advisory, Compliance, and others).

- Contribute to the design and implementation of strategic data capabilities that strengthen how organizations manage, govern and use data to drive business value
- Own defined workstreams and analyses, supporting project leads in delivering objectives on time and within scope
- Partner with senior team members to support project planning, coordination, staffing and risk management activities
- Build working relationships with client stakeholders and support presentations related to project deliverables, brainstorming sessions, discussions and status updates
- Collaborate with an extended global team of diverse skill sets (knowledge management, data technologists, business operations, etc.) to deliver high-quality outputs
- Provide guidance to junior team members when appropriate
- Contribute to building long-term Data Strategy assets and offerings
- Support proposal development, client discussions and thought leadership efforts where data expertise is needed
- Contribute to developing perspectives on data strategy innovations to build firm intellectual capital and thought leadership
- Support relationship-building efforts with key data partners in the U.S.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
- Bachelor's or master's degree required, with strong academic performance in analytic and quantitative coursework
- 2-4 years of relevant experience in data strategy, data governance, data management or enterprise data transformation

Align your degree field to ZS's specialty occupation standard
ZS files H-1B petitions for Strategy Associates under specialty occupation requirements, meaning your degree must directly relate to management consulting, business analytics, life sciences, or a quantitative field. A general business degree without a focused major can create USCIS scrutiny, so gather transcripts that highlight relevant coursework before applying.
Target ZS's campus recruiting cycle strategically
ZS Associates hires Strategy Associates heavily through MBA and advanced-degree campus programs, with offers typically extended in fall for summer starts. If you're on OPT, confirm your graduation date leaves enough active OPT to cover your start date before the next H-1B cap filing window opens in March.
Use Migrate Mate to surface open Strategy Associate roles at ZS
ZS posts Strategy Associate openings across multiple offices, and availability shifts by region and practice area. Migrate Mate filters verified visa-sponsoring roles so you can focus your applications on live ZS positions that match your sponsorship timeline and work authorization needs.
Clarify CPT authorization before your ZS internship converts
ZS regularly converts Strategy Associate interns who used CPT into full-time offers requiring H-1B sponsorship. Confirm with your DSO that your CPT usage won't affect OPT eligibility, since 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT entirely and could disrupt your path to H-1B sponsorship through ZS.
Negotiate your offer timeline around the H-1B cap window
H-1B registration opens in March each year with an April 1 start date if selected. If your ZS offer comes late in the calendar year, ask your ZS recruiter whether a deferred start date or cap-gap extension under OPT applies, so you're not left in a gap between authorization periods.
Prepare a structured project portfolio before final-round interviews
ZS's Strategy Associate case interviews often probe how candidates have applied structured analytical frameworks to real client or research problems. Documenting two or three concrete examples from prior work or academic projects, including the business context, your methodology, and the measurable outcome, strengthens both your interview performance and the evidentiary record ZS may later use in your H-1B petition.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does ZS Associates sponsor H-1B visas for Strategy Associates?
Yes, ZS Associates sponsors H-1B visas for Strategy Associate roles. ZS is a well-established H-1B petitioner in the consulting space and regularly files on behalf of candidates in this function. If you're currently on F-1 OPT, ZS will typically initiate the H-1B cap registration process in March ahead of the October 1 start date, so confirm your OPT expiration date covers that transition period.
How do I apply for Strategy Associate jobs at ZS Associates?
Applications go through ZS's careers portal, and most Strategy Associate openings are tied to specific MBA, advanced-degree, or undergraduate recruiting cycles. ZS recruits heavily on campus at target schools, so engaging with their campus recruiting team early improves your visibility. You can also find currently open, visa-sponsoring Strategy Associate roles at ZS through Migrate Mate, which filters specifically for employers actively sponsoring work visas.
Which visa types does ZS Associates commonly use for Strategy Associate roles?
ZS Associates sponsors H-1B visas as the primary long-term work authorization path for Strategy Associates. For candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 status, ZS also supports F-1 OPT and CPT. TN visas are available for Canadian and Mexican nationals in qualifying roles, and H-1B1 visa sponsorship is available for Chilean and Singaporean citizens. Green Card sponsorship through EB-2 or EB-3 PERM labor certification is also offered for longer-tenured employees.
What qualifications does ZS Associates expect for Strategy Associate candidates?
ZS typically hires Strategy Associates from MBA programs or from undergraduate backgrounds with strong quantitative coursework in fields like economics, statistics, engineering, or life sciences. Candidates are expected to demonstrate structured problem-solving, proficiency in data analysis tools, and the ability to communicate findings clearly to clients. Industry exposure in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or healthcare is a differentiator but not a strict requirement for entry-level cohorts.
How do I time my ZS Associates application around my visa authorization?
If you're on F-1 OPT, your application timeline needs to account for two critical dates: your OPT expiration and the H-1B cap registration window in March. ZS's Strategy Associate offers often come through fall recruiting for a summer start, which means you need enough OPT remaining to work from your start date through at least October 1 of the following year. STEM OPT extensions, which USCIS allows for qualifying degrees, can provide up to 24 additional months and significantly ease this timing constraint.
