Construction Jobs in San Jose: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction job in San Jose?
Focus your search on the sectors driving the most activity in San Jose right now: commercial office and lab buildouts in North San Jose, transit-oriented mixed-use projects near Diridon Station, and public infrastructure work tied to the city's ongoing road and utility programs. General contractors, specialty subcontractors, and municipal project managers all hire regularly here. A OSHA 30-hour card and documented experience with union or prevailing-wage projects will give you a clear edge over other applicants.
Which companies hire constructions in San Jose?
Employers hiring constructions in San Jose right now include MFS Construction, WD, and HDR, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Jose's employer mix leans toward regional general contractors, specialty subcontractors serving the tech campus corridor, and public agencies managing the city's infrastructure pipeline.
Are there remote construction jobs in San Jose?
Yes, but only for a narrow slice of roles. Most construction work is inherently on-site, so remote options are limited to project management, estimating, scheduling, and BIM coordination positions. About 33% of construction openings tied to San Jose are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, concentrated largely in office-based support roles rather than field positions.
How can I get a construction job in San Jose with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in San Jose is a laborer or apprentice role with a union-affiliated contractor working on the city's active commercial and infrastructure projects. Local building trades councils run registered apprenticeship programs that pay while you train. Entry-level positions in materials handling, site cleanup, and flagging are also common with the general contractors managing large mixed-use developments downtown and in the Berryessa district.
Which industries hire the most constructions in San Jose?
San Jose construction roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. San Jose's position as a major tech hub and its ongoing public transit expansion drive consistent demand for commercial, institutional, and civil construction work across these sectors.
