Construction Manager Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction manager job in Houston?
Focus on Houston's dominant construction sectors: energy infrastructure, petrochemical plant work, large commercial builds, and the ongoing expansion of the Texas Medical Center and Port of Houston. General contractors, engineering and procurement firms, and major industrial owners hire the most here. Candidates who can demonstrate experience managing union and open-shop crews, reading oilfield or industrial specs, and coordinating with Houston-area subcontractors stand out in a competitive local market.
Which companies hire construction managers in Houston?
Companies currently hiring construction managers in Houston include Turner & Townsend Pty Limited, KALCON, and HITT Contracting, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's market skews toward large engineering and construction firms, industrial owner-operators, and commercial general contractors tied to the city's energy and healthcare sectors.
Are there remote construction manager jobs in Houston?
Yes, though they are rare. Field-facing construction manager roles are largely on-site by nature, but project controls, estimating, and pre-construction planning positions can offer remote or hybrid arrangements. About 28% of construction manager openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The most remote-eligible work in Houston tends to sit within large EPC firms managing multi-site industrial portfolios.
How can I get a construction manager job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through an assistant project manager or field engineer role with a mid-size general contractor or regional industrial contractor working in petrochemical or commercial construction. Houston employers regularly hire graduates from the University of Houston's construction management program and from Texas A&M. Internships with energy-sector EPC firms also convert to full-time positions, and many candidates move up from superintendent or estimating roles once they have local jobsite experience.
Which industries hire the most construction managers in Houston?
Houston construction manager roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Energy, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's role as the country's energy capital, combined with its major medical complex and sustained commercial development, drives consistent demand across those sectors year over year.
