Transmission Engineer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a transmission engineer in Texas?
Becoming a transmission engineer in Texas starts with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, followed by licensure through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. You must first earn your Engineer in Training designation by passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, then accumulate qualifying experience before sitting for the Principles and Practice of Engineering exam to become a licensed Professional Engineer. A PE license is required for signing off on transmission projects in Texas.
Which companies hire transmission engineers in Texas?
Employers hiring transmission engineers in Texas right now include ENTRUST Solutions, Burns & McDonnell, and WSP, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's deregulated ERCOT grid and ongoing grid hardening investments make it one of the more active states for sustained transmission engineering hiring across investor-owned utilities and independent transmission developers alike.
Which Texas cities have the most transmission engineer jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most transmission engineer openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its concentration of energy company headquarters and pipeline operators, Dallas-Fort Worth is home to major investor-owned utilities and ERCOT-adjacent employers, and Austin draws demand from grid planning firms and technology-adjacent power sector companies serving the growing central Texas load.
Are there remote transmission engineer jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're limited. Transmission engineering often requires on-site work for substation inspections, field studies, and project coordination, so fully remote roles represent a smaller share of the market. About 40% of transmission engineer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in power flow modeling, interconnection study work, and NERC compliance analysis that can be done from a desktop environment.
How can I get hired as a transmission engineer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a junior or associate transmission engineer role at one of Texas's large investor-owned utilities, such as Oncor or CenterPoint Energy, which run structured new-graduate development programs that rotate engineers through planning, operations, and project delivery. Candidates with an electrical engineering degree who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam hold a clear edge over those who haven't. Adjacent roles in protection and control, substation design drafting, or power systems consulting also serve as common lateral entry points into transmission-focused positions.
Where can I find and apply to transmission engineer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to transmission engineer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
