Construction Project Manager Jobs in Kansas City: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a construction project manager job in Kansas City?
Focus on Kansas City's most active construction sectors: commercial mixed-use development in the Crossroads and Power & Light districts, healthcare facility expansion anchored by major medical campuses, and public infrastructure tied to ongoing city and county projects. General contractors, owner-representative firms, and municipal development agencies are the employer types hiring most consistently. Candidates with experience in ground-up commercial builds, healthcare construction, or public works contracts have a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire construction project managers in Kansas City?
Companies currently hiring construction project managers in Kansas City include JE Dunn Construction, Burns & McDonnell, and Meta, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The local market is anchored by regional general contractors, national firms with Kansas City offices, and owner-side organizations in healthcare, higher education, and municipal government.
Are there remote construction project manager jobs in Kansas City?
Yes, but remote availability is limited by nature for this role since most construction project manager work requires regular on-site presence. About 38% of construction project manager openings tied to Kansas City are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with remote arrangements most common for preconstruction planning, estimating, and owner-side program management rather than active site supervision.
How can I get a construction project manager job in Kansas City with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Kansas City is starting as a project engineer or project coordinator with a regional general contractor or a city-affiliated development authority. Firms working on Kansas City's infrastructure and streetcar expansion projects have historically brought on entry-level candidates willing to rotate through field and office roles. A construction management or civil engineering degree from a local program, combined with an internship on a Kansas City commercial project, significantly improves your chances with established local contractors.
Which industries hire the most construction project managers in Kansas City?
The sectors hiring the most construction project managers in Kansas City are Consulting & Professional Services and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Kansas City's sustained investment in healthcare campus expansion, mixed-use urban redevelopment, and regional infrastructure keeps demand concentrated in these areas across both the Missouri and Kansas sides of the metro.
