Senior Engineer I, Cybersecurity Controls Engineer - New Product Development
About Motivair

Our New Product Development (NPD) Controls Team develops customized control architectures, software logic, and automation solutions to deliver high‑performance, reliable, and efficient liquid‑cooling products.
What will you do?
The Senior Engineer I, Cybersecurity Controls Engineer within the New Product Development (NPD) team is responsible for developing, configuring, and validating control logic, automation sequences, embedded software, and system integration for Motivair’s liquid‑cooling solutions. This role requires strong analytical capability, hands‑on controls development skills, and the ability to translate customer‑specific requirements into reliable and maintainable software and controls architectures.
In addition, this role is responsible for driving Cybersecurity best practices, protective designs, and security solutions, along with translating analytical findings into clear recommendations to the NPD Controls Team. This role acts as a technical specialist applying expert knowledge to design, implement, and refine Cybersecurity solutions while supporting coordination of work across peers.
What are the key skills we are looking for?
- Design, deploy, and maintain robust Cybersecurity measures.
- Measure security efficacy against design baselines and remediate all identified vulnerabilities to maintain a strong security posture.
- Drive and Implement Software Development Lifecycle (SDL) practice in projects and products.
- Review, validate, and schedule security patches for Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and other hardware ensuring updates do not trigger operational downtime.
- Develop PLC logic, HMI interfaces, and automation sequences for liquid‑cooling control systems.
- Create control panel layouts, I/O lists, communication architectures, and system documentation.
- Program, test, and validate PLC, HMI, and embedded control hardware in accordance with internal standards.
- Integrate sensors, instrumentation, VFDs, pumps, and communication buses into functional control systems.
- Interpret customer specifications, SOWs, and industry standards to develop customized ETO controls solutions.
- Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, and field service teams to ensure end‑to‑end system functionality.
- Troubleshoot controls issues during build, FAT, commissioning, and field deployment.
- Develop and maintain documentation including functional specifications, wiring diagrams, logic flow, and test plans.
- Support continuous improvement efforts, software standardization, and development of reusable controls modules.
What qualifications will make you successful?
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related discipline.
- Strong Understanding of the core Cybersecurity Principles, Regulations and Standards.
- 5 years or more of experience in industrial controls, automation, embedded software, or related fields.
- A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in at least two of the domains of the Secure Development Lifecycle.
- Ability to develop and troubleshoot PLC applications using Function Block Diagrams (FBD), Structured Text (ST), and Ladder Logic (LD), depending on system requirements.
- Experience with BMS/SCADA development and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, BACnet, SNMP, Redfish (nice to have)).
- Demonstrated ability to manage source code using modern version control systems (Git/GitHub), following best practices for collaboration and code integrity.
- Strong understanding of control theory, instrumentation, PID tuning, and system integration.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, I/O diagrams, and system architecture drawings.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for automation hardware and software.
- Strong communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and adapt to evolving requirements.
Preferred Skills
- A relevant CyberSecurity Certification (eg CSSLP, CISSP, CEH, Data Privacy Practitioner).
- Proficient with PLC programming environments such as C.suite/1Tool (Carel), Modicon, and Schneider EcoStruxure. Experienced in embedded firmware development using C/C++, Python or similar languages.
- Experience integrating variable‑frequency drives (VFDs), optimizing pump‑control systems, and implementing thermal‑management automation. Skilled in commissioning fieldbus‑connected devices.
- Familiarity with data logging, analytics, and cloud‑connected control architectures.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for securing industrial control systems and operational technology environments.
- Exposure to digital twins, simulation modeling, or virtual commissioning tools.
- Understanding of DFMA, Lean principles, and standardized software architecture practices.

For this U.S. based position, the expected pay range is USD 101,600 - USD 152,400 per year. This pay range includes base pay and short‑term incentives. The compensation range for this full‑time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our pay ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the pay range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
