Position Summary
The Director of Operations, Credit Counseling & Debt Management Program (DMP), is responsible for leading and optimizing the day-to-day operations of a nonprofit credit counseling organization. This role connects strategic priorities with operational execution to ensure counseling, DMP administration, client service, quality assurance, and compliance functions are efficient, effective, secure, and aligned with regulatory and accreditation standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operational Leadership & Strategy:
o Translate organizational strategy into scalable operational plans, priorities, and performance expectations for credit counseling and DMP functions.
o Oversee daily operations across client intake, counseling, DMP setup and maintenance, payment processing coordination, and service delivery.
o Identify and implement process improvements that enhance client experience, operational efficiency, and service quality.
o Provide leadership and direction to managers and operational teams supporting credit counseling, DMP servicing, and related client support functions.
- Technical Skills & Infrastructure:
o Oversee the effective use of operational systems and technology, including CRM platforms, workflow tools, and security protocols that support counseling and DMP administration.
o Use data and reporting to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including service levels, client retention, program completion, payment performance, and team productivity.
o Ensure strong controls for cybersecurity, data privacy, and the secure handling of confidential client and financial information.
o Partner with IT and business stakeholders to evaluate system enhancements, streamline workflows, and maintain reliable operational infrastructure that supports scalable service delivery.
- Financial & Regulatory Management:
o Support operational planning, resource allocation, vendor oversight, and budget management for counseling and DMP functions.
o Ensure compliance with federal and state requirements, accreditation standards, creditor guidelines, and internal policies related to credit counseling, debt management, consumer protection, and data privacy.
o Manage relationships with operational vendors and partners, including payment processors, technology providers, and other service organizations.
o Monitor operational risk, audit readiness, and control effectiveness to ensure accurate program administration, timely issue resolution, and ongoing adherence to regulatory and organizational standards.
- Team Development:
o Lead, coach, and develop managers and high-performing teams across counseling, DMP operations, and support functions.
o Foster a culture of accountability, service excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance or related field; a master's degree is preferred.
· 10+ years of progressive operational leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management role, preferably within credit counseling, debt management, financial services, or a regulated service environment.
· Demonstrated experience improving operational workflows, implementing or optimizing CRM systems, and using reporting tools to manage performance.
· Strong knowledge of consumer financial regulations, operational controls, data privacy requirements, and the secure handling of personally identifiable information (PII).
Physical Demands
- Sitting: Remain in a seated position for extended periods while performing duties like computer work.
- Mobility: Occasionally stand and walk to move around the office or call center floor.
- Manual Dexterity: Use hands for keyboarding, operating office equipment (like printers, fax machines, and phones), and other fine motor tasks.
- Vision: Require close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, with the ability to adjust focus to see computer screens, documents, and other office equipment clearly.
- Lifting: May occasionally need to lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, though this is not a primary function.
- Other: May need to use hands and arms to reach, and turn, raise, and lower the head
