ASAM Levels 3.1 & 3.5 Residential Behavioral Health
Position Summary
The Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) provides clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, and care coordination for adults receiving residential substance use disorder treatment in ASAM Level 3.1 and Level 3.5 programs. The LCPC serves as a key member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, ensuring the delivery of evidence-based, trauma-informed, person-centered care that promotes recovery, stability, and long-term wellness.
The LCPC is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Maryland Department of Health, COMAR regulations, ASAM Criteria, CARF accreditation standards, HIPAA, and organizational policies.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, mental health evaluations, and substance use disorder assessments.
- Complete ASAM assessments and recommend the appropriate level of care.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans based on clinical needs and client goals.
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling using evidence-based treatment approaches.
- Diagnose behavioral health disorders within the scope of licensure and document clinical findings.
- Conduct crisis intervention, suicide risk assessments, safety planning, and de-escalation interventions as needed.
- Monitor client progress and revise treatment plans based on clinical outcomes.
- Facilitate psychoeducational groups addressing relapse prevention, coping skills, trauma, emotional regulation, recovery, and life skills.
- Coordinate care with physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, nurses, case managers, peer recovery specialists, and community providers.
- Participate in interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and case reviews.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
- Assist with discharge planning and coordination of continuing care services.
- Ensure compliance with confidentiality standards, HIPAA regulations, COMAR requirements, and CARF standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, utilization review, and program development.
- Provide clinical consultation and support to staff regarding client care and behavioral health best practices.
- Maintain professional licensure and complete all required continuing education.
QualificationsRequired
- Current Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) license in the State of Maryland.
- Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field.
- Minimum of two years of experience providing behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment.
- Knowledge of ASAM Criteria, co-occurring disorders, trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and recovery-oriented practices.
- Experience facilitating individual and group counseling.
- Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, and treatment planning skills.
- Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred
- Experience working in residential treatment or ASAM Level 3.1 and/or 3.5 programs.
- Knowledge of CARF accreditation standards and Maryland Department of Health behavioral health regulations.
- Experience supervising clinical staff or counseling interns.

Supervises: May provide clinical supervision to LGPCs, counseling interns, and other designated clinical staff, consistent with Maryland licensing regulations and organizational policy.
