COTA Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cota in Maryland?
To work as a cota in Maryland, you must hold an active license issued by the Maryland Board of Occupational Therapy Practice. The path begins with completing an accredited associate degree program in occupational therapy assisting, followed by passing the NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant exam. After passing, you apply directly to the Maryland Board for your state license before beginning supervised practice. Maryland does not currently participate in an OTA licensure compact, so out-of-state applicants must apply for a Maryland license individually.
Which companies hire cotas in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring cotas in Maryland include Ultimate Therapy, Powerback Rehabilitation, and TidalHealth, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of large health systems, long-term care networks, and public school districts means cota roles turn over regularly across both clinical and educational settings statewide.
Which Maryland cities have the most cota jobs?
The Maryland cities with the most cota openings are Rockville, Baltimore, and Waldorf. Baltimore leads because of its density of hospital systems, rehabilitation centers, and school districts, while the D.C. suburban counties of Montgomery and Prince George's generate strong demand through large outpatient clinics, pediatric therapy practices, and county public school systems that employ cotas directly.
Are there remote cota jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they're rare. Cota work is fundamentally hands-on, so the vast majority of roles require in-person patient care. About 0% of cota openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be administrative, care coordination, or telehealth-adjacent roles rather than direct therapy positions.
How can I get hired as a cota in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to large Maryland health systems and school districts that routinely onboard new graduates, including the University of Maryland Medical System and Baltimore City Public Schools, which post cota and therapy aide roles that require only a valid license rather than prior experience. Completing a fieldwork rotation in Maryland strengthens your application significantly, since many facilities prefer to hire from their own intern pool. Candidates who hold an active Maryland COTA license on day one, even without paid experience, are consistently prioritized over applicants still awaiting licensure.
Where can I find and apply to cota jobs in Maryland?
You can find and apply to cota jobs in Maryland on Migrate Mate, which lists current Maryland openings updated regularly. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience, specialty, and preferred location, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No profile creation is required to view and apply to open positions.
