COTA Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cota in Texas?
To become a cota in Texas you must complete an associate degree from an ACOTE-accredited occupational therapy assistant program, accumulate your required fieldwork hours, pass the NBCOT Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant exam, and then apply for licensure through the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Texas requires active state licensure before you can practice, and the board issues the license only after NBCOT certification is confirmed.
How much do COTAs make in Texas?
COTAs in Texas earn a median of about $81,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $60,980 for the lowest 10% to over $95,900 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cotas in Texas?
Employers hiring cotas in Texas right now include HealthPRO Heritage, Lifepoint Health, and Memorial Hermann Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large integrated health systems and school district therapy contracts tend to generate the most consistent volume of openings across the state.
Which Texas cities have the most cota jobs?
Austin, Dallas, and Houston have the most cota openings in Texas right now. Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth lead because of their density of hospital systems, pediatric networks, and independent school districts under contract for therapy services, while San Antonio's large military-affiliated population and growing rehabilitation hospital footprint drive steady demand there as well.
Are there remote cota jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Because cota work is fundamentally hands-on, the large majority of Texas openings require in-person presence at a clinic, school, or facility. About 0% of cota openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telehealth consultation or documentation-support roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a cota in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to school districts and large rehabilitation networks that run new-graduate orientation programs, since Texas districts like Houston ISD and Dallas ISD regularly bring on first-year cotas under supervising OTs. Encompass Health and CHRISTUS Health both offer structured onboarding for new clinicians. Completing a Level II fieldwork rotation at your target employer strengthens your application significantly, and holding an active Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners license before you apply removes the most common hiring barrier.
Where can I find and apply to cota jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to cota jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings updated regularly. Search the listings, find a role that fits your experience and preferred setting, and apply directly to the employer through the posting.
