Licensed Clinical Social Worker Jobs in Maryland: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland?
You become a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland by earning a master's degree in social work from a CSWE-accredited program, then applying to the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners for licensure. Maryland's highest clinical license is the LCSW-C, which requires passing the ASWB Clinical exam and completing a supervised post-master's practice period under an approved supervisor. Applications, supervision requirements, and eligibility criteria are published by the Maryland Board of Social Work Examiners.
Which companies hire licensed clinical social workers in Maryland?
Companies currently hiring licensed clinical social workers in Maryland include LifeStance Health, BWN, and Presence, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Maryland's concentration of federally funded health systems, VA facilities, and large nonprofit behavioral health networks means full-time LCSW-C openings appear consistently throughout the year.
Which Maryland cities have the most licensed clinical social worker jobs?
The Maryland cities with the most licensed clinical social worker openings are Annapolis, Baltimore, and Millersville. Baltimore anchors the market with its dense concentration of hospital systems and community behavioral health organizations, while the D.C. suburban counties of Montgomery and Prince George's draw volume from large health systems, county government agencies, and federally affiliated programs that serve the region's diverse population.
Are there remote licensed clinical social worker jobs in Maryland?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because many licensed clinical social worker roles involve direct in-person care, case management visits, or regulated clinical settings. About 96% of licensed clinical social worker openings tied to Maryland are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and the positions most likely to offer remote work are outpatient telehealth therapy roles and care coordination positions that do not require on-site client contact.
How can I get hired as a licensed clinical social worker in Maryland with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for associate or supervised clinical social worker positions, which Maryland employers post specifically for candidates who are still accumulating the supervised hours required for the LCSW-C. Large systems such as University of Maryland Medical System, Johns Hopkins, and county-run behavioral health departments in Montgomery and Baltimore counties regularly hire master's-level social workers at the LMSW level and provide the structured supervision needed to advance. Adjacent roles such as case manager, care coordinator, and clinical intake specialist are common lateral moves that give early-career professionals the documentation and caseload experience that hiring managers look for.
Where can I find and apply to licensed clinical social worker jobs in Maryland?
