Licensed Clinical Social Worker Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois?
To become a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois, you must earn a Master of Social Work degree from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, complete the required post-graduate supervised clinical hours under an approved supervisor, and pass the Association of Social Work Boards clinical-level examination. Licensure is issued by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, which also handles renewals and supervision endorsements for those pursuing advanced practice.
Which companies hire licensed clinical social workers in Illinois?
Employers hiring licensed clinical social workers in Illinois right now include Brave Health, Rush University Medical Center, and Deer Oaks Mental Health Associates, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's large integrated health systems, county mental health boards, and state agencies like the Department of Human Services sustain some of the most consistent clinical social work demand in the region.
Which Illinois cities have the most licensed clinical social worker jobs?
Chicago, Springfield, and Tinley Park have the most licensed clinical social worker openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates by volume because of its density of hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, and nonprofit behavioral health organizations, while Rockford and Springfield draw consistent hiring from regional medical centers and state government agencies serving underserved populations across central and northern Illinois.
Are there remote licensed clinical social worker jobs in Illinois?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because licensed clinical social worker roles often involve in-person assessments, crisis intervention, and court-mandated services. About 73% of licensed clinical social worker openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with telehealth therapy and care management consultation making up the bulk of those remote-eligible positions.
How can I get hired as a licensed clinical social worker in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a Licensed Social Worker position while accumulating the supervised clinical hours required for full LCSW licensure in Illinois. Large employers such as Advocate Health Care, Sinai Chicago, and Illinois Department of Children and Family Services regularly hire MSW graduates into associate clinician or case manager roles that count toward licensure. Completing a field placement or practicum at a community mental health center in Illinois gives candidates a significant edge when applying for these supervised positions.
Where can I find and apply to licensed clinical social worker jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to licensed clinical social worker jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings across behavioral health agencies, hospital systems, and public sector employers. Find the roles that fit your credentials and experience level and apply directly to the employers posting them.
