CPT AI Data Engineer Jobs
AI Data Engineer CPT jobs let F-1 students apply machine learning pipelines, data infrastructure, and model deployment skills directly to a degree program requirement. Your DSO must authorize CPT before your start date, and the role must tie to your enrolled coursework, a data science, computer science, or AI-focused program typically satisfies this.

About the Role
Join Mistral AI's Data Partnerships team and help shape the future of AI data. Working closely with cross functional teams, including IP & Licensing, Engineering, and Research, you will contribute to the processes and initiatives that enable high quality data to support frontier AI development.
As an AI Data Solutions Intern, you will become an expert user of internal tools and workflows that support our data partnerships initiatives related to STEM academic content. For the next 6 months, you will analyze existing processes, identify opportunities to improve efficiency and scalability, and explore how AI can be applied to solve complex operational challenges. Your insights will help inform product improvements and contribute to the evolution of our internal capabilities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys solving complex problems with AI, is excited about emerging technologies, and wants to design smarter ways of working through experimentation, analysis, and thoughtful collaboration.
What You Will Do
- Analyze data, workflows, and user feedback to identify improvement opportunities.
- Prototype and evaluate AI-enabled solutions using Python, SQL, spreadsheets, APIs, or LLMs.
- Conduct research and analysis to support product, partnership, and operational decisions.
- Support content discovery and evaluate high quality data sources for AI applications.
- Document findings and present recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Research, Product, and IP & Licensing teams.
What We’re Looking For
- Passion for AI and curiosity about applying emerging technologies to solve real-world problems.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Background in Computer Science, Data Science, Data Analytics, Engineering, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
- Experience using Python, SQL, spreadsheets, or other analytical tools.
- Familiarity with LLMs, AI tools, APIs, or workflow automation is a plus.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Comfortable collaborating across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Curious, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Get Access To All JobsAI Data Engineer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an AI Data Engineer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role connects directly to your enrolled program. Degrees in data science, computer science, artificial intelligence, or information systems typically satisfy the curricular integration requirement. The position description must demonstrate that duties like building ML pipelines or managing data infrastructure align with your current coursework, not just your field of study generally.
Can I do CPT at a startup that has no visa sponsorship history?
You can do CPT at any employer your DSO approves, including startups with no prior visa sponsorship. CPT itself doesn't require the employer to file anything with USCIS. The risk is forward-looking: if you plan to transition to OPT or H-1B visa with that employer later, their willingness and infrastructure to sponsor matters. Research their filing history before committing.
How do I find AI Data Engineer employers who have sponsored international students before?
Migrate Mate filters employers by DOL Labor Condition Application filing history, so you can see which companies have sponsored roles in data engineering and adjacent titles. This is more reliable than asking recruiters directly, since LCA records are public and reflect actual filing behavior rather than stated intent.
Does part-time CPT for an AI Data Engineer role count toward my 12-month full-time CPT limit?
Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, does not count toward the 12-month full-time CPT threshold that would eliminate your OPT eligibility. Full-time CPT, over 20 hours per week, counts against that limit. Many AI Data Engineer internships run full-time during summer and part-time during the academic year, so track your hours across both arrangements carefully with your DSO.
What happens if my AI Data Engineer CPT role shifts to a different team or project mid-authorization?
A material change in duties, employer location, or supervision structure typically requires a new CPT authorization and a revised I-20. If your role moves from a data infrastructure team to an ML research group with a different job description, notify your DSO before the change takes effect. Working outside the scope of your authorized CPT puts your F-1 status at risk.
