The Accounting staff intern will be an integral member of the Accounting Department team at CCHMC led by the Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer. Interns will be assigned to execute specific tasks within a variety of operational and accounting functions, including but not limited to general ledger, research accounting, cost accounting, accounts payable, and cashier office responsibilities. Required skills include outstanding verbal, written, and communication skills, demonstrated leadership skills, strong analytical abilities, and strong Microsoft Office product knowledge, including Excel. Accounting majors preferred. Students will attend CCHMC’s new hire orientation program and will be a part of monthly department meetings.
Accounting Interns may have an opportunity to experience a wide array of assignments, exposing them to different facets of CCHMC’s operations. The internship "career path" may include assignments in core accounting functions – general ledger, accounts payable, research accounting, and fixed assets.
We are committed to the personal and professional development of our interns. We will provide performance feedback at the end of the assignment to ensure continual personal and professional growth. If desired, part-time work may be available during times that the intern is attending classes.

Does a bookkeeping job qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role involves tasks directly tied to your accounting or finance curriculum. Your DSO evaluates whether duties like accounts payable processing, bank reconciliations, or payroll data entry are integral to your program requirements. A general office assistant role that incidentally handles bookkeeping tasks typically won't qualify. Get your offer letter reviewed by your DSO before accepting.
Can I do CPT bookkeeping work remotely?
Remote CPT is permitted as long as the employer is a legitimate U.S. entity and the work authorization is still tied to a U.S. worksite location for your I-20. Your DSO will list the employer's address on your CPT authorization regardless of where you physically work. Confirm with your DSO how your school documents remote placements before your start date.
How do I find bookkeeping employers who accept CPT students?

Accounting firms, nonprofit finance departments, and regional CPA practices are the most common CPT-friendly placements. Avoid targeting large corporations as your first outreach since their HR teams often aren't familiar with CPT and may decline before evaluating your qualifications.
Does full-time CPT in bookkeeping affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. If you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose eligibility for post-completion OPT entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, doesn't count against your OPT regardless of duration. Many F-1 students in accounting programs structure bookkeeping CPT as part-time specifically to preserve their OPT for post-graduation full-time employment.
What documents do I need to start a CPT bookkeeping job?
You need an updated I-20 with CPT authorization listed for the specific employer, a valid F-1 visa stamp for re-entry purposes, and a current I-94 showing lawful F-1 status. Your employer will complete Form I-9 and verify your documents. The I-20 with CPT endorsement is your primary work authorization document, not a separate EAD card, which is not issued for CPT.
