The BOLT (Building Opportunities & Learning Together) Intern Program is Kinder Morgan’s elite summer internship program. Do you want to spend your summer gaining hands-on experience in the energy industry while enhancing your professional and interpersonal skills? At Kinder Morgan, you will have the opportunity to do just that by participating in meaningful projects that support our vision of delivering energy to improve lives and create a better world.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- The intern will work closely with Kinder Morgan professionals, specifically focused on technical accounting: derivatives, hedging, and research, through on the job training and hands-on assignments including, but not limited to, allocations, journal entries, reconciliations, research, and financial reporting.
- The intern will have the opportunity to work with two or more functional areas of Kinder Morgan: Accounting Policies and Procedures, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Segment Accounting.
- Assist in monthly close process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Entering Junior or Senior year of college.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Proficient in MS Office applications including Excel, MS Word, & Outlook.
- Ability to learn, work independently, and complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and respond to deadlines.
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills: listens intently; writes and speaks clearly.
- Takes initiative, highly adaptive, pays attention to detail, and works efficiently.

A general office assistant role that incidentally handles bookkeeping tasks typically won't qualify. Get your offer letter reviewed by your DSO before accepting.
Can I do CPT bookkeeping work remotely?
Remote CPT is permitted as long as the employer is a legitimate U.S. entity and the work authorization is still tied to a U.S. worksite location for your I-20. Your DSO will list the employer's address on your CPT authorization regardless of where you physically work. Confirm with your DSO how your school documents remote placements before your start date.
How do I find bookkeeping employers who accept CPT students?

Does full-time CPT in bookkeeping affect my OPT eligibility?
Yes. If you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose eligibility for post-completion OPT entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, doesn't count against your OPT regardless of duration. Many F-1 students in accounting programs structure bookkeeping CPT as part-time specifically to preserve their OPT for post-graduation full-time employment.
What documents do I need to start a CPT bookkeeping job?
You need an updated I-20 with CPT authorization listed for the specific employer, a valid F-1 visa stamp for re-entry purposes, and a current I-94 showing lawful F-1 status. Your employer will complete Form I-9 and verify your documents. The I-20 with CPT endorsement is your primary work authorization document, not a separate EAD card, which is not issued for CPT.
