Get Access To All JobsDirector Of Financial Reporting CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Director of Financial Reporting role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in financial reporting, accounting theory, or corporate finance. Your DSO will evaluate whether the specific duties, such as preparing consolidated financial statements, managing close processes, or drafting technical accounting memos, connect directly to your curriculum. The more detailed your job description, the easier that evaluation becomes.
Can I do CPT for a Director of Financial Reporting job at a startup or small company?
Yes, employer size doesn't affect CPT eligibility. What matters is whether the role's duties qualify as an integral part of your curriculum and whether the employer can provide a compliant offer letter. Smaller companies may not have a dedicated HR team familiar with CPT paperwork, so plan to walk them through the DSO authorization process yourself.
How do I find Director of Financial Reporting employers who are open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate for Director of Financial Reporting roles filtered for employers with sponsorship history. Companies that have previously filed LCAs for accounting and finance roles are more likely to understand the CPT authorization process and more willing to structure a position that satisfies your school's curriculum requirements.
Does using CPT for this role affect my OPT or STEM OPT eligibility later?
Part-time CPT has no impact on OPT eligibility regardless of how long you use it. Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. A Director of Financial Reporting CPT role is often structured full-time, so track your cumulative full-time CPT usage across all employers carefully with your DSO.
What should the offer letter say to satisfy my DSO's CPT authorization requirements?
The offer letter must include your exact job title as Director of Financial Reporting, your official start and end dates, the employer's legal name and address, confirmation that the position is paid, and a description of your core duties. Generic offer letters referencing only 'accounting support' are often rejected. Ask HR to include specific responsibilities tied to financial close or reporting cycles.
