Does a VP Financial Planning Analysis role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if the work is an integral part of your graduate curriculum and your DSO authorizes it before your start date. VP FP&A roles typically qualify for students in MBA, MS Finance, or MS Accounting programs where financial modeling, forecasting, and strategic planning are core learning objectives. Your school determines eligibility, not the employer.
Can I work full-time as a VP in FP&A on CPT while still enrolled?
Full-time CPT is allowed but counts against your OPT eligibility. Twelve or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your post-graduation OPT entirely. Many students in VP-level roles negotiate part-time CPT during the semester and shift to full-time during summer or winter breaks to preserve OPT for post-graduation use.
How do I find VP FP&A employers who are comfortable with CPT work authorization?
Migrate Mate lets you filter VP Financial Planning Analysis roles by employer visa filing history, which is the clearest signal that a company has handled international work authorization before. Employers with active LCA filings are far less likely to withdraw an offer after learning you need CPT documented in the hiring process.
What does my employer need to provide for CPT authorization?
Your DSO requires a formal offer letter stating your job title, the company name and address, your start and end dates, whether the role is full-time or part-time, and how the work connects to your degree program. VP FP&A offer letters sometimes omit the part-time or full-time classification, which stalls DSO review.
Does CPT at the VP level affect my H-1B eligibility later?
CPT itself does not affect H-1B visa eligibility, but exhausting your OPT through 12-plus months of full-time CPT does. Without OPT, you lose the cap-gap protection that bridges your status between OPT expiration and an approved H-1B start date. Students who exhaust OPT through CPT must time their H-1B petitions precisely to avoid a gap.
