Full-time CPT is permitted but carries a significant consequence: 12 months or more of full-time CPT disqualifies you from OPT entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, does not count against your OPT eligibility. If you're planning to use OPT or STEM OPT after graduation, structure your CPT engagement to stay under that 12-month full-time threshold.

Working outside the scope of your authorized CPT terms is a status violation, so notify your DSO before any material change takes effect.
