Get Access To All JobsVP Of Operations CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a VP of Operations role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in operations management, supply chain, or business administration and your DSO confirms the role is an integral part of your curriculum. The job title alone doesn't determine eligibility. Your school evaluates whether the specific responsibilities at the specific employer align with your academic program before issuing CPT authorization.
Can I do CPT for a VP of Operations role at a startup or small company?
You can, but smaller companies are less likely to have experience with CPT documentation requirements. Your DSO will need a detailed offer letter, and the company must be a legitimate U.S. employer paying market-rate wages. If you're searching for CPT-eligible employers in operations, Migrate Mate shows companies with prior sponsorship history so you can assess their familiarity with work authorization requirements before applying.
How far in advance should I get CPT authorization for an operations leadership role?
Most DSOs require at least two to four weeks to process CPT authorization, but complex roles like VP of Operations often require additional review to confirm curricular integration. Submit your request with the offer letter and a written explanation of how the role ties to your coursework at least three to four weeks before your intended start date to avoid authorization gaps.
Does working on CPT as a VP of Operations affect my post-graduation OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. If you're planning a long-term CPT engagement in an operations role before graduation, factor this into your post-graduation visa strategy. Part-time CPT, regardless of duration, does not affect OPT. Coordinate with your DSO before accepting any full-time arrangement that extends close to or beyond 12 months.
What academic programs typically support CPT authorization for VP of Operations positions?
MBA programs with concentrations in operations, supply chain management, or general management most commonly support CPT authorization for these roles. Graduate programs in industrial engineering, business analytics, or organizational leadership can also qualify if your coursework covers operational strategy. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific program requirements and the employer's job description.
