Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Intern – Procurement Buyer for Summer, 2027. The position is based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Hitachi Rail provides signaling systems for metros and light rail systems. Our solutions provide efficient, safe and green transportation solutions for people around the world. This position offers you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the dynamic world of urban transit. You will gain hands-on experience while providing valuable support to your team. By working in this role, you will gain insight into the realm of mobility, significantly enhancing your understanding of Hitachi’s missions and impact.
We’re looking for eligible students to join Hitachi Rail! Hiring for May 2027 through August 2027.
Accountabilities:
- Ensure periodical spend reporting at Procurement Geographic Area Level
- Support local procurement activity execution preparing RFP / RFQ documentations
- Support the preparation and execution of PO/ Final Contract Documentation for relevant local procurement commodity
- Support supplier performance analysis through performance reviews by collecting feedback from relevant units/internal customers
- Support business functions on specific required procurement actions aimed to achieve cost reduction
Required Skills/ Knowledge:
- 0-3 years of Procurement expertise
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Microsoft Windows operating system education/experience
- Microsoft Office, EXCEL and WORD education/experience
Desired Skills/ Knowledge:
- Experience with SAP and SAP E-Auctions
Education:
Current Engineering, Business (Economics), or Law student at a 4-year university with a graduation date between December 2027 and December 2028.
Languages:
English Proficiency

Does a Buyer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in procurement, supply chain management, operations, or business administration. Your DSO will look for a direct connection between the Buyer job duties, such as vendor negotiation, purchase order management, and cost analysis, and specific courses in your curriculum. Bring a detailed job description to your CPT authorization meeting to make that link clear.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Buyer without affecting my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT lasting 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, per SEVIS regulations. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, accumulates without affecting OPT. If the Buyer role is a full-time summer internship under 12 months, your OPT remains intact, but you should track your cumulative full-time CPT hours carefully across all authorizations.

What documents does my employer need from me to onboard me on CPT as a Buyer?
Your employer needs your CPT-endorsed I-20, which lists the employer name, start date, and whether authorization is part-time or full-time. Some HR departments also request your I-94 arrival record to confirm your F-1 status is current. The employer completes an I-9 using your I-20 and passport as List A documents. You cannot start work before your CPT start date, so align your offer letter start date with your DSO authorization timeline.
