Get Access To All JobsSupply Chain Associate CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Supply Chain Associate role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the work directly integrates with your academic program. Supply chain roles covering procurement, demand forecasting, inventory control, or logistics operations typically satisfy curricular relevance when your degree program includes coursework in those areas. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring a copy of the job description and the relevant course syllabus to your authorization meeting.
Can I do CPT for a Supply Chain Associate job at a company with multiple warehouse or distribution sites?
Yes, but your CPT authorization must list every work location where you'll be physically present. Supply chain roles often involve rotating across facilities or visiting supplier sites. If your primary office is listed but you regularly work from a distribution center, your I-20 must reflect that. Notify your DSO before working at any site not already authorized.
How does part-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility for supply chain jobs after graduation?
Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, has no impact on your OPT eligibility regardless of how many semesters you use it. Only full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more eliminates your OPT. If you're planning to pursue full-time supply chain roles after graduation using OPT, keeping your CPT part-time throughout your program protects that option.
What should I look for in an employer offering Supply Chain Associate CPT roles?
Focus on employers who have previously worked with F-1 students on CPT or OPT, since they understand the authorization timeline and won't withdraw an offer because of paperwork delays. Migrate Mate surfaces employers with a track record of sponsoring international students in supply chain and operations roles, which narrows your search to companies already comfortable with the process.
Can I use CPT for a Supply Chain Associate role that requires occasional travel to supplier or vendor sites?
Yes, provided the travel is incidental to your primary work location and not a separate worksite requiring its own authorization. If the role regularly places you at a supplier facility for extended periods, that location may need to be added to your CPT authorization. Clarify the travel expectations with your employer before your DSO submits the authorization, so your I-20 reflects the full scope of the work.
