Get Access To All JobsLogistics Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Logistics Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your academic program includes relevant coursework in supply chain management, operations, procurement, or business logistics and the job duties directly relate to that curriculum. Your DSO evaluates the connection between the specific role and your program requirements. A vague job title alone isn't enough, the offer letter needs to describe logistics-specific responsibilities that your school can map to coursework on your I-20.
Can I do CPT as a Logistics Manager at a freight or third-party logistics company?
Yes. Freight forwarders, 3PL providers, and distribution companies regularly hire F-1 CPT students into logistics management roles. What matters is whether the employer's role description aligns with your curriculum, not the industry segment. Confirm the employer uses E-Verify before accepting an offer, since I-9 compliance is required and many logistics operations already have it in place.
How do I find Logistics Manager employers who understand CPT?
Search Migrate Mate for logistics and supply chain roles, filtering by employers with DOL Labor Condition Application filing history in operations management. Employers who have filed LCAs for these roles are already familiar with work authorization documentation, which typically means fewer complications when you present your CPT authorization letter and updated I-20 at onboarding.
What happens if my CPT end date falls before the project wraps up?
CPT authorization is tied to a specific employer, role, and date range on your I-20. Working past the authorized end date, even briefly, is an unauthorized employment violation that can affect your F-1 status. You need a new CPT authorization from your DSO before extending. Build a buffer into your initial request so you're not filing an extension at the last minute.
Does CPT experience as a Logistics Manager count toward OPT or future visa sponsorship?
CPT hours don't reduce your OPT eligibility unless you used 12 or more months of full-time CPT, in which case you lose OPT entirely. On the sponsorship side, documented logistics management experience strengthens an H-1B visa specialty occupation argument because the role requires a specific degree field. Keep records of your CPT authorization letters, performance reviews, and any project documentation for future petitions.
