Does a Supply Chain Specialist role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role directly relates to your degree program and your school treats it as an integral part of your curriculum. Supply chain positions typically qualify for students in business, industrial engineering, operations management, or logistics programs. Your DSO makes the final determination, and the offer letter should describe duties like inventory analysis, vendor coordination, or procurement planning that map to your coursework.
Can I do CPT at a company that doesn't have prior F-1 hiring experience?
Yes. CPT authorization comes from your school, not from USCIS or the employer. The employer doesn't file anything with the government for CPT. They do need to complete an I-9 using your I-20 with the CPT endorsement as your work authorization document. Choosing an employer enrolled in E-Verify simplifies this process, but it isn't a legal requirement for CPT.
How do I find Supply Chain Specialist employers who are comfortable hiring F-1 students?
Search Supply Chain Specialist roles on Migrate Mate, which filters employers based on Labor Condition Application filing history. Companies that have filed LCAs for supply chain or operations roles have already navigated F-1 work authorization processes, making them better positioned to onboard you quickly and support future visa sponsorship if you want to extend your status after graduation.
Will full-time CPT as a Supply Chain Specialist affect my OPT eligibility?
It can. Twelve or more months of full-time CPT, defined as 20 or more hours per week, eliminates your post-completion OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT doesn't count toward that threshold regardless of how many semesters you complete. If your supply chain role is full-time and runs for a year or longer, coordinate with your DSO before accepting to understand the impact on your post-graduation work authorization options.
What job duties make a Supply Chain Specialist role strong for CPT approval?
Roles centered on demand forecasting, supplier evaluation, procurement analysis, inventory optimization, or logistics coordination are the strongest candidates for CPT authorization because they require analytical skills taught directly in supply chain, operations, or business curricula. Roles that focus primarily on warehouse labor, physical inventory handling, or general administrative tasks are harder to connect to academic coursework and may require more documentation for DSO approval.
