Get Access To All JobsData Operations Analyst CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Operations Analyst role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your program includes coursework in data management, information systems, or business analytics and the role's duties connect directly to that curriculum. Your DSO makes the final determination. The job description must reference responsibilities like data pipeline maintenance, data quality assurance, or reporting workflows that your enrolled courses explicitly address.
Can I work full-time as a Data Operations Analyst on CPT?
Full-time CPT is permitted but carries a significant consequence: 12 months or more of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Most F-1 students in data roles opt for part-time CPT during the semester and full-time CPT only during summer or winter breaks, preserving OPT for post-graduation employment.
How do I find employers who are comfortable with CPT for this role?
Search for Data Operations Analyst positions on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with Labor Condition Application filing history for data roles. Employers who have filed LCAs for similar positions have already navigated work authorization processes and are more likely to accept CPT documentation without confusion or delays.
What documents does my employer need to process my CPT?
Your employer needs your updated I-20 showing CPT authorization with the correct employer name, start date, and end date. Some employers, particularly those enrolled in E-Verify, also request your current visa stamp and passport. Get your CPT-endorsed I-20 from your DSO before your first day and confirm what HR requires before you start.
What happens if my CPT end date falls before my project finishes?
You cannot work past your CPT authorization end date under any circumstances. If your project extends beyond the original timeline, your DSO must issue a new I-20 with an updated end date before you continue working. Coordinate the extension request with HR at least two weeks before your current authorization expires to avoid any gap in work authorization.
