Does a Land Acquisition Manager role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your degree program includes coursework in real estate, urban planning, business, or a related field that directly connects to acquisition duties. Your DSO evaluates whether the role is an integral part of your curriculum, not just generally related to your major. Roles involving market analysis, contract negotiation, or due diligence typically satisfy that standard when tied to specific courses.
How do I find employers willing to structure a CPT-authorized position?
Search Migrate Mate for real estate development and property companies with active hiring history under relevant SOC codes. Employers already familiar with work authorization processes are more likely to cooperate with your DSO on the offer letter language CPT requires. Mid-size regional developers often offer more flexibility in role design than large institutional firms.
Can I do CPT part-time as a Land Acquisition Manager?
Yes. CPT can be part-time or full-time depending on what your program allows. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't affect your 12-month full-time OPT eligibility. Full-time CPT lasting 12 months or more eliminates your standard OPT entirely, so confirm the planned hours with your DSO before accepting a full-time offer.
What documents does my employer need from me for CPT?
Your employer will need your valid I-20 with CPT authorization listed for the specific employer and dates, along with your EAD if your school issues one. Some employers also request your SEVIS registration confirmation. CPT authorization is employer-specific, so if the role or company name changes, you need a new I-20 before starting.
Will CPT in land acquisition count toward future H-1B sponsorship?
CPT work experience can support an H-1B visa petition if the duties align with a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field. Land Acquisition Manager roles typically qualify under real estate or business administration. Your CPT job history, documented clearly, can appear in an employer's H-1B petition to demonstrate your qualifications for the position.
