Get Access To All JobsRegional Distribution Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Regional Distribution Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
It qualifies if your school's DSO can document a direct link between the job duties and your enrolled curriculum. Regional Distribution Manager roles in supply chain, operations management, or business programs typically meet this standard. Roles in unrelated programs, say, computer science without a business component, are harder to authorize. Your program advisor and DSO make the final call, not USCIS.
Can I do CPT for a Regional Distribution Manager role at a company that doesn't currently sponsor visas?
Yes. CPT authorization is granted by your DSO and doesn't require the employer to be an active visa sponsor. The employer doesn't file anything with USCIS for CPT. The risk is post-CPT: if you want to extend your authorization through OPT or H-1B visa, you'll need an employer willing to support that process. Browse Migrate Mate to find employers with demonstrated sponsorship history in distribution and logistics.
How does full-time versus part-time CPT affect my OPT eligibility for this role?
Twelve months or more of full-time CPT (20 or more hours per week) eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, regardless of how many months you use it, doesn't affect OPT. For a Regional Distribution Manager role, structuring CPT as part-time during active semesters protects your post-graduation options, including STEM OPT extension if your degree qualifies.
What documentation does my employer need to provide for CPT authorization as a Regional Distribution Manager?
Your DSO typically requires an offer letter on company letterhead stating your job title, start date, work location, hours per week, and a description of duties. For Regional Distribution Manager roles, the duty description should reference specific supply chain or operations responsibilities that map to your coursework. Some schools also require a training plan or internship agreement signed by a supervisor.
Is a Regional Distribution Manager role eligible for STEM OPT extension after CPT?
STEM OPT eligibility depends on your degree classification, not the job title. If you hold a qualifying STEM degree, such as supply chain management, industrial engineering, or operations research, and your employer is enrolled in E-Verify, you can apply for the 24-month STEM OPT extension after your initial 12-month OPT period. The Regional Distribution Manager role itself must be directly related to your STEM degree field.
