Get Access To All JobsBusiness Relationship Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Business Relationship Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your school's curriculum includes coursework in client management, business strategy, organizational behavior, or related fields that the BRM role directly applies. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific program requirements and the employer's job description, not the job title alone. Bring documentation linking BRM duties to your enrolled courses.
Can I do CPT as a Business Relationship Manager at a non-profit or government agency?
Yes. CPT eligibility depends on the curricular connection and your DSO's approval, not the employer's sector. Non-profits and government agencies can authorize your CPT work just as private employers can. Confirm the employer understands CPT authorization requirements and can provide a written offer letter with specific employment dates for your I-20 update.
What documents does the employer need to provide for my CPT authorization?
Most DSOs require a formal offer letter on company letterhead stating your job title, employment start and end dates, weekly hours, supervisor name and contact, and a brief description of duties. Some schools also require a training agreement or co-op contract. Ask your DSO for the exact checklist before approaching the employer, so you can request everything in one conversation.
How do I find Business Relationship Manager jobs where the employer already understands CPT?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Business Relationship Manager openings by employers with verified visa sponsorship and work authorization experience, helping you identify companies whose HR teams are already familiar with F-1 work authorization. Employers with prior CPT or OPT hires are far less likely to withdraw offers once they understand your authorization timeline.
Will my BRM CPT experience count toward H-1B specialty occupation eligibility later?
It can strengthen your profile significantly. BRM roles typically require a bachelor's degree in business, management information systems, or a related field, which aligns with H-1B specialty occupation standards as defined by USCIS. Document your CPT duties, employer letters, and performance records during your training period, this evidence supports both future OPT STEM extension arguments and eventual H-1B petitions.
