CPT Devops Lead Jobs
DevOps Lead roles on CPT sit at the intersection of systems architecture and team management, which means your DSO authorization must reflect both the technical and supervisory components of the work. Your I-20 curriculum description needs to connect CI/CD pipeline oversight, infrastructure-as-code, and cross-functional coordination directly to your enrolled program.

Does a DevOps Lead role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the work is directly tied to your enrolled program's curriculum. DevOps Lead roles typically involve infrastructure engineering, CI/CD pipeline management, and cross-functional team coordination, all of which can satisfy the integral curriculum requirement for graduate-level computer science, information systems, or engineering programs. Your DSO makes the final determination based on your specific I-20 program description and the employer's job duties.
Can I do part-time CPT for a DevOps Lead position while finishing coursework?
Yes. Part-time CPT is limited to 20 hours per week while school is in session and has no impact on your future OPT eligibility. Full-time CPT, used for 12 months or more, eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, so most F-1 students in leadership-track roles prefer part-time CPT during the semester and full-time only during official breaks.
How do I explain CPT to a DevOps team hiring manager unfamiliar with F-1 work authorization?
CPT is school-authorized work authorization, not an employer-sponsored visa. The employer doesn't file anything with USCIS and has no legal exposure in the way H-1B visa sponsorship creates. You work on your existing F-1 status, and your updated I-20 with CPT authorization is the only documentation the employer needs to verify your work eligibility through E-Verify or Form I-9.
What happens to my CPT authorization if the DevOps Lead role changes scope mid-engagement?
CPT is authorized for a specific employer, start date, end date, and job description. If your duties shift significantly, such as moving from individual contributor work to full team leadership, your DSO may need to issue a revised I-20 reflecting the updated scope. Working outside your authorized CPT terms puts your F-1 status at risk, so notify your DSO before the role changes, not after.
Where can I find DevOps Lead jobs that are open to CPT students?
Migrate Mate lets you search for DevOps and infrastructure roles filtered by employers with work authorization filing history, which helps identify companies already familiar with F-1 employment. Since CPT doesn't require employer sponsorship, your focus should be on finding hiring managers who understand F-1 status and won't confuse CPT with H-1B sponsorship during the offer stage.
