Does a Digital Marketing Director role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if your program includes coursework in marketing strategy, brand management, analytics, or digital communications and the role's responsibilities map directly to those areas. Your DSO makes the final determination. Director-level roles with budget authority and team management often satisfy the integral curriculum requirement more easily than junior roles, because the scope matches upper-division or graduate-level coursework.
Can I work as a Digital Marketing Director at an agency versus an in-house team on CPT?
Both settings are eligible, but the DSO authorization is employer-specific. If you switch from an agency to an in-house role, or change employers within the same CPT period, you need a new I-20 endorsement for each position. Agency environments that place you with multiple client teams under one employer contract are generally fine, but subcontracting arrangements where you work under a different company's supervision can raise authorization questions.
How do I find Digital Marketing Director jobs where employers understand CPT?
Search on Migrate Mate, which filters for employers with work authorization experience. In interviews, ask whether the company has onboarded F-1 CPT students before. Mid-size tech, e-commerce, and SaaS companies tend to have HR teams familiar with CPT documentation, while very small agencies may need more hand-holding on the I-20 and authorization timeline.
What documentation does my CPT employer need from me?
Your employer needs a copy of your current I-20 with the CPT authorization page showing the specific employer name, authorized dates, and part-time or full-time status. They also need your I-94 record and your EAD is not required for CPT. Keep a copy of all documents on file and confirm your employer updates their E-Verify records if they're enrolled.
Does CPT for a Digital Marketing Director role affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT authorized for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, or full-time CPT under 12 cumulative months, does not affect OPT. For a director-level role, which is typically full-time, track your CPT days carefully. USCIS counts all CPT periods across all employers at the same school, so prior CPT at internship level counts toward that 12-month threshold.
