CPT Electronic Engineer Jobs
Electronic Engineer CPT jobs let F-1 students apply circuit design, embedded systems, and signal processing coursework to paid industry roles before graduation. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position as integral to your degree program, so align every job description to your specific engineering coursework before requesting authorization.

Does an Electronic Engineer role qualify for CPT authorization?
It qualifies if your DSO determines the work is an integral part of your curriculum. Roles involving circuit design, embedded systems, FPGA development, or RF engineering map clearly to most electrical and computer engineering degree programs. Roles with duties outside your declared major, such as a primarily software-focused position when your degree is in electrical engineering, may require additional justification to your DSO.
Can I work full-time as an Electronic Engineer on CPT?
Yes, but full-time CPT (20 or more hours per week) affects your OPT eligibility. If you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose your OPT entirely, including the STEM OPT extension. Many F-1 students in engineering programs opt for part-time CPT during the semester and full-time during summer to preserve as much OPT as possible.
How do I find Electronic Engineer jobs from employers familiar with CPT?
Migrate Mate lets you browse Electronic Engineer roles filtered by employers with verified work authorization filing history. Targeting employers already comfortable with F-1 hiring requirements significantly reduces the back-and-forth over CPT documentation and offer letter language.
What does an Electronic Engineer CPT offer letter need to include?
Your DSO typically requires the offer letter to include your full name, job title, work location, start and end dates, and confirmation of whether the role is full-time or part-time. Some DSOs also require a brief description of duties to verify the role aligns with your coursework. Ask your employer to include all of these before you submit your CPT request.
Does O*NET classify Electronic Engineer as a specialty occupation?
The O*NET occupation profile for Electronic Engineers lists a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering as the standard entry requirement, which meets the specialty occupation threshold used by USCIS. This classification is relevant if you plan to transition from CPT to H-1B visa sponsorship after graduation, since your employer will need to confirm the role requires at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field.
