Get Access To All JobsOperations Analyst CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does an Operations Analyst role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is directly tied to your degree program. Operations Analyst work, process mapping, data analysis, supply chain optimization, aligns well with business, industrial engineering, and operations management curricula. Your DSO makes the final determination based on how the employer's job description maps to your coursework, so bring specific course names to that meeting.
Can I do CPT as an Operations Analyst at a company that hasn't hired F-1 students before?
Yes. CPT authorization is between you and your school, not between USCIS and your employer. The employer doesn't file anything with USCIS for CPT. What matters is that your DSO approves the role as integral to your curriculum. That said, employers unfamiliar with F-1 students sometimes ask unnecessary questions, having a one-page CPT explainer ready for HR speeds things up.
How does CPT as an Operations Analyst affect my OPT eligibility later?
Full-time CPT lasting 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, so track your authorized hours carefully. Part-time CPT, or full-time CPT under 12 months, has no impact. If you're planning to transition to OPT or STEM OPT after graduation, keep your full-time CPT total under 12 months and confirm the math with your DSO each semester.
What documents does an employer need from me to start a CPT Operations Analyst role?
Your employer needs a copy of your updated I-20 with the CPT endorsement, your EAD if applicable, and your I-94 record. For CPT specifically, the I-20 with your DSO's signature authorizing the specific employer and dates is the core document. Some employers also request your visa stamp and passport bio page for their I-9 verification records.
Where can I find Operations Analyst roles open to CPT students?
Migrate Mate lists Operations Analyst positions from employers with F-1 hiring history, letting you filter by work authorization type. Beyond the job search itself, look for employers in industries with high LCA filing volume for this occupation, financial services, logistics, consulting, and healthcare operations tend to hire more F-1 students at the analyst level.
