ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
As a project manager intern, you will assist the project management team in the execution of projects that are safe, on time, and within project budget. Project Manager Interns will interact across multiple internal departments and roles, including preconstruction, subcontractors, and field management to assist with various aspects of a project lifecycle. We are seeking a motivated individual looking to grow with the RJM team and enhance our team culture.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Read and understand plans, specifications, and other documents to understand the project scope
- Effectively communicate with internal and external project stakeholders, both written and verbal, to convey project questions, directions, reports, or other correspondences
- Attend and support project meetings such as Owner/Architect/Contractor, subcontractor, pre-installation meetings, or punch list meetings
- Assist the project manager in updating and delivery of project schedules
- Update and maintain accurate as-built documents as changes on projects are encountered
- Conduct safety walkthroughs of jobsites with field and project management staff, and ensure any deficiencies are corrected
- Assist in the ordering or scheduled delivery of materials to the jobsite
- Maintain awareness of new and emerging industry practices and the potential application to client engagements
- Assist with project closeout tasks
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Pursuing BS Degree in Construction Management or related field
Work Experience:
- General building construction and terminology knowledge
- Working knowledge of building codes
- Previous internship or estimating experience preferred but not required
- Ability to read plans and specifications
- Understanding of Construction Systems and CSI codes
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
- Microsoft applications: Excel, Word, Outlook, and Project
- Bluebeam
- Viewpoint Software
Demonstrated Professional Competencies to include:
- Excellent time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability and confidence to work directly with clients
- Team-oriented; flexible; professional; enjoys new challenges
- Ability to harvest and maintain relationships with clients, architects/engineers, and subcontractors
Professional Certifications or Licenses:
- School or industry-related certifications or accolades

Your DSO will look for course overlap with the specific duties in your offer letter, so ask the employer to describe the technical scope of your leadership responsibilities explicitly.

What happens to my OPT if I complete a full-time CPT as a Project Lead?
Twelve months or more of full-time CPT use makes you ineligible for OPT after graduation. Part-time CPT, regardless of total duration, does not affect OPT. If your Project Lead role is full-time and spans multiple semesters, track your cumulative authorization days through SEVIS and discuss OPT preservation with your DSO before each renewal to avoid losing post-graduation work authorization.
Do I need a separate work permit or USCIS filing to start a CPT Project Lead job?
No separate USCIS filing is required. CPT authorization is issued entirely by your DSO through your school's SEVIS record, and your updated I-20 with the CPT endorsement is your employment authorization document. USCIS is not involved in approving CPT. You must not begin work until your DSO has updated your I-20 and the authorized start date on that document has arrived.
