CPT Robotics Jobs
Robotics roles in automation, perception systems, and controls engineering qualify for CPT when your DSO confirms the work integrates directly with your degree program. Most F-1 students pursuing CPT in robotics are enrolled in engineering, computer science, or mechatronics programs and need employer authorization letters that map the role to specific coursework.

Get Access To All JobsRobotics CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a robotics internship automatically qualify for CPT?
No. Your DSO must confirm the robotics role is an integral part of your current curriculum, not just related to your field. You'll need a job offer letter, a faculty or advisor endorsement connecting the work to specific coursework or a degree requirement, and your DSO's authorization before your start date. Starting work before CPT is approved violates your F-1 status.
Can I do CPT in robotics if my degree is computer science, not robotics engineering?
Yes, if your DSO agrees the role integrates with your program. Robotics software roles covering perception, motion planning, or embedded systems map cleanly to computer science curricula. The key is documenting how the specific job duties connect to your coursework, not just the job title. Your advisor's written endorsement is typically what the DSO needs to approve the authorization.
How do I find robotics employers who understand CPT work authorization?
Search Migrate Mate to identify robotics and automation companies with experience hiring F-1 students. Employers familiar with CPT already know they don't file anything with USCIS for CPT itself, which removes a common source of confusion and delay. Targeting companies with that background shortens the offer-to-authorization timeline significantly.
Does CPT in robotics count against my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT doesn't affect OPT. Full-time CPT used for 12 months or more eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely, including the STEM OPT extension. Most F-1 students in robotics programs use CPT for one or two semesters and stay under the 12-month threshold, but you should track cumulative full-time CPT days carefully with your DSO from the start.
What documentation does a robotics employer typically need from me for CPT?
Most robotics employers need your I-20 with the CPT authorization page, your current visa stamp or status documentation, and confirmation that your authorized dates cover the entire employment period. Some employers in defense or government contracting also run USCIS work authorization verification through E-Verify, so have your authorization documents ready before your first day.
