CPT Security Consultant Jobs
Security Consultant roles sit at the intersection of risk analysis, compliance frameworks, and client advisory work, making them a strong CPT fit for students in cybersecurity, information systems, or risk management programs. Your DSO must authorize CPT before your start date, and the work must directly integrate with your current coursework, not a future graduation requirement.

Get Access To All JobsSecurity Consultant CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Security Consultant work qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your academic program includes cybersecurity, information systems, risk management, or a related concentration and the job duties directly connect to that coursework. Your DSO will require a job offer letter describing the specific tasks. Roles focused on IT security audits, compliance advisory, or vulnerability assessments typically align well with graduate and undergraduate programs in these fields.
Can I do full-time CPT as a Security Consultant without affecting my OPT?
Full-time CPT is authorized in 12-month increments. If you accumulate 12 or more months of full-time CPT, you lose eligibility for OPT entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, doesn't count against your OPT regardless of how many semesters you complete it. Plan your CPT usage strategically if you intend to pursue OPT after graduation.
What documents do I need to start a CPT Security Consultant role?
You need a CPT-endorsed I-20 from your DSO before your first day of work. The employer also needs your current I-20 on file. Some consulting firms require a background check clearance before onboarding, which can take additional time, so factor that into your start date discussion when accepting the offer.
How do I find Security Consultant employers who are comfortable hiring CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate for Security Consultant roles filtered by employers with documented LCA filing history. Employers who've filed Labor Condition Applications previously understand work authorization processes and are less likely to withdraw offers when they learn you're on CPT. Mid-size consulting firms and government contractors often hire CPT students for security advisory roles.
Can a Security Consultant CPT role count toward STEM OPT eligibility later?
CPT authorization doesn't itself create STEM OPT eligibility, but the degree you earn does. If your program is STEM-designated and you graduate, you can apply for a 24-month STEM OPT extension after your initial 12-month OPT period. Your employer at that point must be enrolled in E-Verify, which is worth confirming with any Security Consultant employer during the offer stage.
