Get Access To All JobsSenior Asset Manager CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Asset Manager role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the work is an integral part of your curriculum and your program has a structured practicum, internship, or co-op requirement. Graduate programs in real estate, finance, or investment management typically satisfy this, but your DSO makes the final determination. The job duties must connect to a specific course, not just your degree field generally.
Can I work full-time as a Senior Asset Manager on CPT?
You can, but full-time CPT used for 12 or more months eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Since Senior Asset Manager roles are almost always full-time, this is a real tradeoff to plan around. If you want to preserve OPT, you'll need to limit full-time CPT to under 12 months total across your program.
What does the employer need to provide for my CPT authorization?
Your DSO will need a signed offer letter or employer statement that confirms your start date, work schedule, location, and specific job duties. For Senior Asset Manager roles, the duties should reflect portfolio oversight, asset valuation, or investment analysis functions. Generic offer letters that only list the title are often insufficient for DSO review.
How do I find asset management employers open to CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate for Senior Asset Manager roles filtered for CPT-eligible positions. Firms with established international hiring programs and active DOL filings in asset management are your strongest targets. Real estate investment trusts, private equity firms, and infrastructure fund managers are sectors with consistent demand for graduate-level portfolio management experience.
How does CPT as a Senior Asset Manager affect my H-1B path after graduation?
CPT itself doesn't affect H-1B eligibility, but OPT does, since H-1B sponsorship typically follows OPT employment. If full-time CPT exhausts your OPT eligibility, you'd need to transition directly from F-1 CPT to H-1B status, which requires your employer to file a petition with USCIS before your CPT authorization ends. Confirm your status timeline with your DSO and the employer's HR team well before graduation.
