Get Access To All JobsSenior Brand Designer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Brand Designer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role is an integral part of your degree curriculum and your school offers a mechanism for CPT. Senior Brand Designer positions typically qualify for students in graphic design, communications, or marketing programs, but your DSO makes the final determination based on how the specific job duties connect to your coursework. A generic design job with no curriculum tie won't pass.
Can I work full-time as a Senior Brand Designer on CPT?
Full-time CPT is allowed but comes with a significant caveat: if you accumulate 12 months or more of full-time CPT, you lose your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, does not affect OPT. Many F-1 students in design programs choose part-time CPT to preserve their post-graduation OPT for a less restricted full-time role.
What documents does a Senior Brand Designer need to start CPT?
You'll need a formal offer letter specifying your role title, employer name, work location, start date, and hours per week. Your DSO will also require evidence that the position connects to your curriculum, such as a course description or faculty sign-off. Once approved, your DSO issues an updated I-20 with the CPT authorization, you cannot start work until that updated I-20 is in hand.
How do I find Senior Brand Designer employers who understand CPT?
Search for Senior Brand Designer roles on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with verified design role hiring history. Targeting companies that have previously filed for design-related positions means their HR and legal teams are already familiar with work authorization requirements, which significantly shortens the onboarding conversation around CPT paperwork.
Can a Senior Brand Designer on CPT transition to an H-1B after graduation?
Yes. Senior Brand Designer roles typically qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS criteria because they require at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as graphic design, fine arts, or communications. Your employer would need to sponsor your H-1B petition and file an LCA with DOL certifying the prevailing wage. CPT experience with that employer strengthens the case for continuity in the H-1B petition.
