CPT Senior Designer Jobs
Senior Designer roles in UX, brand, and product design qualify for CPT when your program ties the work directly to your coursework. Your DSO authorizes each CPT position before you start, so you'll need a job offer letter specifying your role, employer, and dates before authorization is issued.

Does a Senior Designer role qualify for CPT authorization?
Senior Designer positions qualify for CPT when your school can establish a direct connection between the role's responsibilities and your enrolled coursework. Programs in design, human-computer interaction, visual communication, and related fields typically satisfy this requirement. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring your offer letter and a course catalog excerpt showing the curriculum connection to your authorization meeting.
Can I do CPT at a design agency or startup instead of a large corporation?
Yes. CPT eligibility depends on your school's authorization and the curriculum connection, not employer size or type. Design agencies, in-house brand teams, and early-stage startups all qualify as long as your DSO approves the placement. Smaller employers may be less familiar with F-1 requirements, so be prepared to explain that CPT authorization comes from your school, not from them or USCIS.
How do I find Senior Designer employers who are comfortable hiring CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate to filter for employers with verified Labor Condition Application filing history in design and creative roles. LCA filings indicate a company has already navigated DOL requirements for international employees, which generally means less friction when you explain CPT. Studios and tech companies with established design teams are also more likely to have HR staff familiar with F-1 work authorization.
What documentation does my employer need from me to start a CPT role?
Your employer needs your CPT-authorized I-20, which your DSO issues after approving the placement. The I-20 lists your authorized employer name, start date, end date, and whether the authorization is part-time or full-time. Your employer doesn't file anything with USCIS for CPT. They do need to complete standard I-9 employment eligibility verification using your authorized I-20 and a valid passport or other acceptable document.
Does full-time CPT as a Senior Designer affect my OPT eligibility after graduation?
Full-time CPT authorized for 12 months or more eliminates your post-graduation OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours per week or fewer, has no effect on OPT regardless of duration. If you're planning to use OPT after graduation, track your full-time CPT hours carefully across all semesters and discuss the running total with your DSO at least one semester before you graduate.
