This Senior Engineer role is focused on PLS‑CADD‑based transmission and distribution line design. Candidates may come from a variety of engineering backgrounds commonly associated with power delivery, with expertise centered on line modeling, structure analysis, and constructible design. You’ll guide projects from concept through construction, mentor engineers and designers, and work directly with clients to deliver high-quality, defensible solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead the engineering and design of transmission and distribution line projects, with a strong emphasis on PLS‑CADD modeling and analysis.
- Develop and review transmission line layouts, structure loading, sag-tension calculations, and clearance analyses.
- Serve as a technical resource and mentor for engineers and designers, providing guidance, QA/QC, and design oversight.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines (substation, civil, environmental, right-of-way) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Interface directly with clients, utilities, and project stakeholders to define scope, schedule, and technical approach.
- Review and stamp engineering deliverables as appropriate.
- Participate in field visits, constructability reviews, and support during construction as needed.
- Contribute to process improvement, standards development, and best practices within the Transmission & Distribution group.
Qualifications
You are passionate about:
- Working collaboratively with others.
- Having ownership in the work you do.
- Using your talents to positively affect communities.
You Bring To The Team
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to contribute and work well with a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, civil engineering, or related field.
- 8+ years of progressive experience in transmission and/or distribution line engineering.
- Advanced proficiency in PLS CADD; experience with PLS POLE and PLS TOWER is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and performing detailed engineering calculations.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience working with utility clients and applicable industry standards.

Get Access To All JobsSenior Electronics Engineer CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Electronics Engineer role qualify for CPT?
Yes, if the work directly integrates with your degree curriculum. Roles involving circuit design, embedded systems development, FPGA programming, or RF engineering typically satisfy this requirement for electrical and computer engineering students. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring a detailed job description and connect each duty to a specific course or program requirement before requesting authorization.
Can I do CPT at a defense contractor or government lab?
Yes, but security clearance requirements add a layer of complexity. Many defense contractors and DOE labs sponsor clearances only for U.S. citizens or permanent residents, which rules out most F-1 students for classified positions. Focus your search on unclassified engineering roles or commercial divisions within those organizations, where citizenship requirements don't apply and CPT authorization proceeds normally.
How do I find Senior Electronics Engineer employers open to CPT?
Search on Migrate Mate, which surfaces employers with DOL Labor Condition Application filing history in engineering occupations. That filing history is a reliable indicator that a company understands work-authorization processes. Also prioritize mid-size semiconductor, medical device, and industrial automation firms, where engineering teams often have direct hiring authority and less restrictive HR screening than large defense primes.
What happens to my CPT authorization if my start date changes?
Your CPT authorization is tied to the specific dates printed on your I-20 endorsement. If your start date shifts, you need a new I-20 with updated dates before you begin work. Working even one day before the authorized start date or after the end date violates your F-1 status. Notify your DSO immediately when any date changes and confirm the updated endorsement before your first day.
Can my Senior Electronics Engineer CPT role lead to H-1B sponsorship?
It can, but the path depends on the employer's willingness to file and your degree field meeting the specialty occupation standard. Senior Electronics Engineer roles almost always qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS because they require at minimum a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Use your CPT term to demonstrate technical value and initiate the H-1B conversation with HR well before the March registration window.
