Does a Travel Coordinator role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the role directly relates to your field of study and is required or integral to your academic program. Common qualifying programs include hospitality management, business administration, supply chain, and tourism. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring the job description to your authorization meeting and confirm the duties map to your enrolled coursework before accepting an offer.
Can I work full-time as a Travel Coordinator on CPT?
Full-time CPT is allowed but has a significant consequence: 12 or more months of full-time CPT eliminates your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as fewer than 20 hours per week, doesn't affect OPT. If you plan to use OPT after graduation, keep CPT part-time or limit full-time authorization to under 12 cumulative months across your F-1 program.
What documents do I need to start a CPT job as a Travel Coordinator?
You need an updated I-20 with CPT authorization listed for the specific employer, start date, end date, and part-time or full-time status. Your employer will also verify your EAD documentation through their standard onboarding process. CPT authorization must appear on your I-20 before your first day, starting work without it is a status violation, not just a paperwork delay.
How do I find Travel Coordinator employers who are comfortable hiring F-1 CPT students?
Search Migrate Mate for Travel Coordinator roles to identify employers with a track record of hiring international students. Corporate travel departments, travel management companies, and hospitality groups tend to have established onboarding procedures for CPT students. Avoid roles at small agencies with no prior international hiring history, since those employers often lack HR familiarity with CPT documentation requirements.
Does my Travel Coordinator CPT job need to be paid?
Unpaid CPT is permitted under F-1 regulations, but most Travel Coordinator positions are paid roles in corporate or hospitality settings. More important than the pay question is whether the position satisfies your school's academic requirements, some programs require a graded practicum tied to CPT, which means the work must be reflected in your course enrollment for the semester it covers.
