Get Access To All JobsVice President Of Sales CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a VP of Sales role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if the position integrates directly with your enrolled curriculum. Your school must be able to connect the job duties, such as revenue forecasting, sales team management, or go-to-market strategy, to a specific course or program requirement. Your DSO makes the final determination, so bring a detailed job description to your authorization meeting.
Can I do CPT at a startup where I'd be the first sales hire?
CPT has no employer size requirement, so working as a founding VP of Sales at a startup is permissible as long as your DSO approves the employer and role. The main risk is that early-stage companies may not have E-Verify enrollment, which some universities require. Confirm your school's policy before accepting the offer.
How do I find VP of Sales roles open to F-1 CPT students?
Browse Migrate Mate to find employer listings with verified sponsorship and LCA filing history in sales leadership. Senior roles like VP of Sales are less frequently posted with explicit CPT language, so filtering by employers who've filed for management-level positions gives you a practical starting point for outreach.
Will full-time CPT as VP of Sales affect my OPT eligibility?
Full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more across your entire F-1 program makes you ineligible for OPT. Part-time CPT, defined as under 20 hours per week, doesn't count toward that limit regardless of duration. If you're planning to use OPT for post-graduation work authorization, track your full-time CPT hours carefully across every employer.
What happens if my CPT authorization is for one employer but a different company acquires them?
Your CPT authorization is tied to the specific employer listed on your I-20. An acquisition that changes the legal employer entity requires a new CPT authorization from your DSO before you continue working. Stop working and contact your DSO immediately if an acquisition changes your employer's legal name or EIN during your authorized CPT period.
