CPT Real Estate Jobs
Real estate CPT roles span property management, brokerage support, asset analysis, and market research, all areas where your DSO can authorize CPT if the work integrates directly with your degree program. Licensing requirements vary by state, but CPT itself covers unlicensed analytical and support roles while you complete your studies.

Can I do CPT at a real estate brokerage if I don't have a real estate license?
Yes. CPT authorization covers your work authorization as an F-1 student, not your state licensing status. You can legally work in unlicensed support roles, market research, financial analysis, transaction coordination, or property management assistance, without a real estate license. Licensed activities like representing buyers or sellers require a state license regardless of your visa status, so your role description must stay on the analytical side.
Does CPT in real estate count against my OPT eligibility?
Part-time CPT does not reduce your OPT eligibility. Full-time CPT totaling 12 months or more eliminates your OPT entirely, so track your authorized days carefully. Many F-1 students in real estate programs use part-time CPT during the semester and full-time CPT during summer breaks to stay under that threshold while gaining meaningful work experience.
What real estate CPT jobs are available for F-1 students?
F-1 students on CPT commonly fill roles in commercial real estate analysis, property management operations, real estate investment trust research, lease administration, and urban planning support. Browse Migrate Mate to find employers with a track record of hiring F-1 students into these roles. Positions at asset management firms and commercial brokerages tend to offer the strongest curriculum alignment for DSO approval.
How does my DSO decide if a real estate internship qualifies for CPT?
Your DSO evaluates whether the job is an integral part of your established curriculum, meaning the work must directly relate to your program of study and often needs to be tied to a required course or credit. A real estate finance student interning in asset analysis typically has a straightforward case. A business analytics student interning in property sales operations may need stronger documentation showing the curriculum connection.
Can a real estate employer sponsor me for H-1B after my CPT ends?
Real estate roles can qualify for H-1B visa sponsorship if the position meets the specialty occupation standard, meaning a bachelor's degree in a specific related field is a minimum requirement. Analyst, asset management, and financial modeling roles generally meet that bar. Property management and leasing agent roles are less consistent. Your employer would need to file a Labor Condition Application with DOL and then file the H-1B petition with USCIS after you've used OPT.
