Get Access To All JobsTalent Acquisition Associate CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Talent Acquisition Associate role qualify for CPT authorization?
Yes, if your degree program includes HR, organizational behavior, workforce management, or a related field, and your DSO can document the curricular tie. The specific duties matter: sourcing, candidate screening, ATS coordination, and onboarding support all map cleanly to HR coursework. Generic administrative duties without a recruiting component are harder to justify.
Can I do CPT at a staffing agency placing candidates for other companies?
CPT authorization names one employer, and that employer must be your direct supervisor and payroll source. If the staffing agency employs you directly and supervises your work, CPT is valid. If you're placed at a client site under a third-party arrangement, your DSO may require clarification on who controls your day-to-day duties before approving.
How do I find Talent Acquisition Associate roles that are open to CPT students?
Migrate Mate filters job listings for employers with a track record of hiring international students on work authorization. Talent Acquisition Associate roles appear across corporate HR departments, tech companies, and staffing firms. Searching by role and authorization type on Migrate Mate saves time compared to filtering manually across general job boards.
Does full-time CPT in a Talent Acquisition role affect my OPT eligibility?
Twelve months or more of full-time CPT exhausts your OPT eligibility entirely. Part-time CPT, defined as 20 hours or fewer per week, doesn't count against OPT. If you're planning to use OPT after graduation, keep your CPT hours part-time or limit full-time CPT to under 12 cumulative months across all employers.
What happens if my CPT end date passes before I finish the internship?
Working past your CPT authorization end date puts you out of status immediately. Your employer can't extend your CPT; only your DSO can authorize a new period, and that requires a new curricular justification tied to an active enrollment term. Get the extension approved before the current end date, not after you've already continued working.
