CPT Welder Jobs
Welder jobs on CPT let F-1 students apply hands-on fabrication, welding technique, and metallurgy coursework in live production environments. Your DSO must authorize each CPT position as integral to your curriculum before you start work, and the employer's role description should map directly to your degree program.

INTRODUCTION
Stoughton Trailers is looking for employees who are interested in becoming welders at our Stoughton plant. We pay you while we teach you how to weld. If you've always wanted to learn a skilled trade that's in high demand, this is the opportunity you've been looking for.
ROLE
Weld School at Stoughton Trailers starts with 2 weeks of classroom/weld lab training where you'll learn about the basics of welding, the equipment used techniques utilized, weld machine settings, how to read blueprints, and so much more. Most importantly you'll work with our expert Weld Instructors who will show you how to weld, and work with you to improve your skills. After the 2 weeks of classroom/lab training, you'll show what you've learned through a hands on weld test. During your training period you will be paid $18.00 hour as a Welder in Training. If you pass the test, we'll assign you to one of our experienced welding mentors on the production weld floor. Your mentor will help you apply your new skills to the parts we produce for our customers. They'll keep a close eye on you and make sure your welding meets our quality standards. After this 3 week hands on training, your supervisor will assess your skills and if you meet expectations in all areas, you'll be promoted to Welder, and your pay will increase to $22.00 hour.

Get Access To All JobsWelder CPT: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a welder job qualify for CPT as an F-1 student?
Yes, if welding work is an integral part of your curriculum. Programs in manufacturing engineering, welding technology, or materials science typically support CPT for welder roles. Your DSO evaluates the specific job description against your enrolled coursework, so a role focused on fabrication, metallurgy, or quality inspection aligns more cleanly than a general labor position.
Can I work as a welder on part-time CPT while taking classes?
Part-time CPT allows up to 20 hours per week and keeps your full-time student status intact. This is common for internship-style roles during the academic term. Full-time CPT, used during breaks or co-op terms, does not count against your OPT eligibility as long as you accumulate fewer than 12 months of full-time CPT authorization total.
How do I find welder employers who have hired F-1 CPT students before?
Migrate Mate lets you filter by employers with prior work-authorization hiring history, which surfaces fabrication shops and manufacturing firms already familiar with CPT documentation. This matters because employers new to F-1 hiring often delay onboarding while sorting out I-9 and E-Verify procedures, which can push your CPT start date past your authorized window.
What documents does a welder employer need from me for CPT?
You'll provide your CPT-endorsed I-20 showing the employer's name and authorized dates, your F-1 visa stamp, and your passport. The employer completes Form I-9 using these documents. No USCIS filing is required for CPT, but the employer's job title on your offer letter must match the occupation listed on your I-20 authorization exactly.
What happens if my CPT welder role ends before my authorized end date?
If the position ends early, notify your DSO immediately. You can't transfer unused CPT authorization to a different employer or role without a new authorization on your I-20. Starting work at a new employer under the original CPT dates is unauthorized employment. Your DSO can issue a corrected I-20 for a new position if it still fits your curriculum.
