This is an exciting, high-impact role at the intersection of security architecture, platform engineering, and AI infrastructure. The ideal candidate brings broad experience with security platforms including SailPoint IdentityNow, CyberArk, HashiCorp Vault, and Azure, along with curiosity about how modern AI tools like Codex, Cursor, and Claude are transforming the way teams work. Hands-on experience with IdentityNow is essential — this role will help guide the identity framework protecting developers, services, and AI agents across NVIDIA's global infrastructure, spanning cloud, on-premises, and managed device environments. Working closely with engineering leads across device management, identity and access management, and platform teams, this role drives technical strategy and owns operational outcomes. A key focus is developing toolsets that harness agentic AI to expand and deepen the reach of our identity governance solutions — a genuinely exciting frontier in enterprise security!
What you'll be doing:
- Embody NVIDIA's AI first mentality with a demonstrated passion and experience in creating deliverables with any modern AI toolset (Claude, Codex, Cursor).
- Build and lead the implementation of Identity Governance solutions that strengthen NVIDIA's enterprise security posture.
- Independently develop technical implementation builds, incorporating feedback from senior engineers and collaborators to deliver well-rounded solutions with an emphasis in agentic AI processes.
- Mentor and develop team members while driving our enterprise Zero Trust strategy through active collaboration.
- Build and advance our Identity Governance roadmap, balancing central initiatives with reliable day-to-day operations.
- Partner with product teams to define secure business requirements, ensuring every collaborator has the clarity needed to build effective solutions.
- Collaborate with project development teams to enable successful delivery by applying the right security tools, technologies, and techniques.
- Champion SDLC guidelines and continuously find opportunities to streamline and improve team processes.
What we need to see:
- 8+ years of hands-on experience with SailPoint IdentityNow or SailPoint Identity IQ
- 8+ years of experience working with IAM technologies in enterprise environments
- 8+ years of software development experience, with a strong foundation in scripting
- Deep expertise in Identity Management concepts including User Lifecycle Management, Access Certifications, Access Requests, Workflow, and Delegated Administration
- Solid experience with SOX controls, enterprise governance and compliance, and SSO authentication and authorization across Microsoft Azure, CyberArk, and HashiCorp Vault
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a related field, or equivalent experience
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
- Experience leveraging agentic AI tools and skills (prompt engineering, AI agent workflow design, MCP integration) to automate identity governance workflows, accelerate development cycles, and extend the reach of security operations across enterprise environments.
- Demonstrated ability to build AI-powered tooling that enhances IGA capabilities — such as using LLMs to generate access certification summaries, flag anomalous entitlements, or draft lifecycle workflow logic.
- Familiarity with securing AI agent identities and non-human service accounts within Zero Trust frameworks, including scoping least-privilege access for AI workloads in cloud and on-prem environments.
- Hands-on experience with DevSecOps practices and CI/CD pipeline integration for identity solutions, including automated testing and deployment of SailPoint configurations and custom connectors.
- Exposure to PAM and secrets management platforms (CyberArk, HashiCorp Vault) in the context of hybrid cloud architectures, with experience enforcing just-in-time access and vaulting credentials for both human and machine identities.

Cybersecurity Engineer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a cybersecurity engineer in California?
California does not issue a state license specifically for cybersecurity engineers, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most employers require a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or cybersecurity. From there, earning a recognized certification such as CISSP, Security+, or CEH significantly improves hire rates. Many California candidates also build hands-on experience through university cybersecurity programs at UC San Diego, Cal Poly, or CSU campuses before moving into engineering roles.
How much do cybersecurity engineers make in California?
Cybersecurity engineers in California earn a median of about $138,570 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,070 for the lowest 10% to over $221,000 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire cybersecurity engineers in California?
Employers hiring cybersecurity engineers in California right now include Palo Alto Networks, Apple, and ByteDance, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of defense contractors, major financial institutions, and enterprise tech firms means cybersecurity engineering demand here stays broad and relatively consistent across sectors.
Which California cities have the most cybersecurity engineer jobs?
San Francisco, Santa Clara, and San Jose have the most cybersecurity engineer openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its density of enterprise software companies, financial technology firms, and cloud infrastructure providers, while Los Angeles is driven by entertainment, aerospace, and government contractors, and San Diego benefits from a large defense and military presence anchored by employers such as Northrop Grumman and Leidos.
Are there remote cybersecurity engineer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. Cybersecurity engineering is largely desk-based work involving code, consoles, and data analysis, which makes it well suited to remote and hybrid arrangements. About 26% of cybersecurity engineer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly California employers have adopted flexible work for this discipline. Roles in threat monitoring, cloud security, and application security tend to be the most remote-friendly.
How can I get hired as a cybersecurity engineer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting in a related IT or security analyst role and building toward engineering responsibilities. Large California employers such as defense contractors and major tech firms regularly hire into entry-level security operations center positions that serve as direct pipelines to engineering. UC and CSU system cybersecurity programs often place students directly into internships at California companies. A CompTIA Security+ certification, a home lab portfolio demonstrating hands-on skills, or a capstone project from a recognized California program gives candidates a concrete edge when competing without prior engineering experience.
Where can I find and apply to cybersecurity engineer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to cybersecurity engineer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings from employers actively hiring. Find the roles that fit your experience and target location, then apply directly to those employers.
