Data Governance Specialist Jobs in Missouri: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance specialist in Missouri?
Most data governance specialists in Missouri enter the field with a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business analytics, or a related discipline, then build experience in data management or analytics roles before moving into governance. Missouri does not require a state-issued license for this role. Earning a recognized industry credential such as the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) from DAMA International or the Data Governance and Stewardship Professional (DGSP) designation strengthens candidacy significantly with Missouri's large healthcare and financial employers.
Which companies hire data governance specialists in Missouri?
Companies currently hiring data governance specialists in Missouri include JBS INTERNATIONAL, American Century Investments, and Edward Jones, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Missouri's concentration of large managed care organizations, regional banks, and state government technology offices means demand for governance talent remains consistent across both the St. Louis and Kansas City corridors.
Which Missouri cities have the most data governance specialist jobs?
Kansas City, St. Louis, and Missouri lead Missouri for data governance specialist openings. St. Louis drives the highest volume, anchored by major health insurers and financial services firms headquartered there, while Kansas City's growing technology and healthcare sector generates strong demand, and Columbia's university health system and state agency presence account for a meaningful share of postings outside the two main metros.
Are there remote data governance specialist jobs in Missouri?
Yes, and more than most fields, because data governance work is largely policy-driven, tool-based, and collaborative through digital platforms rather than requiring physical presence. About 67% of data governance specialist openings tied to Missouri are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the desk-based nature of the role. Positions focused on data policy development, metadata cataloging, and stakeholder training tend to offer the most location flexibility.
How can I get hired as a data governance specialist in Missouri with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a data analyst, database administrator, or business intelligence role into a junior data steward or data quality analyst position, which large Missouri employers such as Centene Corporation and BJC HealthCare use as feeder roles for their governance teams. Completing a CDMP Foundation exam or building a portfolio demonstrating work with data catalog tools and policy documentation gives candidates a concrete edge. Missouri's state government technology offices also post entry-level data management roles that can serve as a starting point for candidates without private-sector experience.
Where can I find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Missouri?
You can find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Missouri on Migrate Mate, which lists current Missouri openings in one place. Search the roles that match your background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
