Data Governance Specialist Jobs in Georgia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance specialist in Georgia?
A bachelor's degree in information systems, data management, computer science, or a related discipline is the standard entry point for this role in Georgia. No state-issued license is required, but employers consistently favor candidates who hold the Certified Data Management Professional credential offered by DAMA International. Many Georgia employers in finance and healthcare also expect demonstrated experience with enterprise data governance platforms and internal policy development before considering candidates for specialist-level roles.
Which companies hire data governance specialists in Georgia?
Employers hiring data governance specialists in Georgia right now include Capgemini, JBS INTERNATIONAL, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Georgia's concentration of financial technology companies, large health systems, and Fortune 500 headquarters in the Atlanta metro creates sustained demand for this role across multiple industries.
Which Georgia cities have the most data governance specialist jobs?
Atlanta, Roswell, and Georgia account for the largest share of data governance specialist openings in Georgia. Atlanta dominates because of its density of corporate headquarters, fintech firms, and major health systems, while secondary markets reflect the presence of large regional employers, government contractors, and university health networks that maintain their own data governance functions outside the core metro.
Are there remote data governance specialist jobs in Georgia?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data governance work is primarily policy-driven and platform-based rather than requiring physical presence. About 43% of data governance specialist openings tied to Georgia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well-suited the role is to distributed work. The portions of the job involving data catalog administration, policy documentation, and stakeholder training tend to be the most consistently remote-eligible.
How can I get hired as a data governance specialist in Georgia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a data analyst, business analyst, or database administrator role into a junior data steward or data quality analyst position, which Georgia employers in finance and healthcare use as feeders for governance teams. Companies like Equifax and large Atlanta-area health systems such as Wellstar Health System hire associate-level data roles that include governance responsibilities. Completing the DAMA Certified Data Management Professional exam or building a portfolio of data quality and metadata projects strengthens a candidacy significantly for Georgia employers with formal governance programs.
