Data Governance Specialist Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance specialist in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license for data governance specialists. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in information systems, data management, or a related field, followed by experience in data analyst or database administrator roles. Earning a Certified Data Management Professional credential through DAMA International strengthens applications at Texas employers in financial services, healthcare, and energy, which are the dominant hiring sectors in the state.
Which companies hire data governance specialists in Texas?
Companies currently hiring data governance specialists in Texas include PwC, Hippo Insurance, and QXO, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Texas's concentration of large financial institutions, integrated energy companies, and major technology operations means sustained, ongoing demand rather than project-based hiring cycles.
Which Texas cities have the most data governance specialist jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most data governance specialist openings in Texas. Houston's dominance reflects its energy sector headquarters and large hospital systems, Dallas draws from a dense concentration of financial services firms and corporate technology centers, and Austin's growth as a technology hub has brought in both established enterprises and scaled companies that treat data governance as a core function.
Are there remote data governance specialist jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields, because data governance work is fundamentally analytical and policy-driven rather than hands-on. About 56% of data governance specialist openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed work. Metadata management, policy documentation, and data quality monitoring are the functions most consistently offered with remote or hybrid flexibility.
How can I get hired as a data governance specialist in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a lateral move from a data analyst, database administrator, or business analyst role, where governance work is often a secondary responsibility that can become a specialization. Large Texas employers in healthcare and financial services, including major hospital networks and regional banks, frequently post data analyst associate roles that include governance tasks. Building a portfolio of data quality or metadata work and earning the CDMP Foundation certificate gives a candidate a concrete edge in Texas applications.
Where can I find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your background and preferred location, and apply directly to each opening that fits.
