Data Governance Specialist Jobs in Ohio: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance specialist in Ohio?
Most data governance specialists in Ohio start with a bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science, business analytics, or a related field. Ohio does not require a state-issued license for this role. Employers across Columbus, Cleveland, and Cincinnati consistently look for candidates who have completed the Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) credential from DAMA International or a vendor-specific certification from Collibra or Informatica, combined with demonstrated experience applying governance frameworks in a regulated industry.
Which companies hire data governance specialists in Ohio?
Employers hiring data governance specialists in Ohio right now include KBR, Great American Insurance, and Quanex, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Ohio's concentration of large healthcare networks, financial institutions, and Fortune 500 headquarters creates a particularly consistent pipeline of governance roles across the state.
Which Ohio cities have the most data governance specialist jobs?
Columbus, Cincinnati, and Beavercreek have the most data governance specialist openings in Ohio. Columbus dominates because it is home to major insurance carriers, state government agencies, and financial services firms that run mature data governance programs, while Cleveland and Cincinnati add volume through their healthcare systems and corporate headquarters with significant compliance and data management needs.
Are there remote data governance specialist jobs in Ohio?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 50% of data governance specialist openings tied to Ohio are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting that the work is policy-driven and documentation-heavy rather than tied to a physical location. Roles focused on data policy authoring, metadata stewardship, and governance tool administration tend to be the most remote-eligible, while positions requiring close collaboration with data engineering or compliance audit teams are more likely to require some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a data governance specialist in Ohio with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a data analyst, database administrator, or business analyst role at an Ohio employer that already has a governance program. Large Ohio healthcare networks and financial institutions occasionally post junior data steward or data quality analyst titles that serve as on-ramps. Earning the CDMP associate-level credential and building a portfolio that demonstrates hands-on work with a data catalog tool, even through coursework or a volunteer project, gives candidates a clear edge with Ohio hiring teams over applicants with credentials alone.
Where can I find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Ohio?
You can find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in Ohio on Migrate Mate, which lists current Ohio openings. Search the roles available, identify the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to each listing that fits your background.
