Role Purpose
Corning's Cables Division is building its manufacturing data governance program from the ground up — and this role is at the center of it. As the Manufacturing Data Governance Manager, you'll define and operationalize data standards, master data management, and data quality across eight manufacturing sites in North America and Europe. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Digital Transformation, you'll ensure every analytics, digital, and AI initiative the division builds is grounded in a clean, consistent, and governed data foundation.
Key Responsibilities
Define and maintain the Cables Division manufacturing data governance framework, including standards, policies, stewardship models, ownership roles, and quality metrics
Lead PI System tag naming convention standardization and remediation across all sites in partnership with Division Engineering
Drive Manufacturing Execution System (MES) configuration harmonization with central IT and plant operations teams
Establish standardized Key Performance Indicator (KPI) definitions, calculations, and data lineage for division-level reporting
Define and govern manufacturing master data — product, equipment, line, and process — in coordination with corporate Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) data teams
Serve as the business owner of manufacturing data standards; partner with IT platform owners across PI, MES, data lake, and Business Intelligence (BI) tools
Support digital and analytics initiatives as a data governance reviewer; ensure new solutions align with division standards and contribute to a shared, scalable data foundation
Experiences/Education - Required
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field — or equivalent combination of education and experience
7+ years of experience in manufacturing data, manufacturing IT, or data governance roles, with meaningful experience in a multi-plant manufacturing environment
1+ years of working knowledge of PI System (OSIsoft/AVEVA), including asset framework and tag conventions
1+ years of working knowledge of MES platforms (Camstar/Opcenter or equivalent) and their data structures
Experience defining and operating data governance programs, including standards, stewardship, quality monitoring, and data lineage
Experience with master data management concepts and practices in a manufacturing context
Working knowledge of SQL, data lakes, and BI/analytics platforms (Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent)
Demonstrated ability to drive cross-site standardization across multiple plants with varied legacy practices
Strong communication skills — able to translate data concepts for plant operators, engineers, IT teams, and executive audiences
Experiences/Education - Desired
PI System certification (OSIsoft/AVEVA)
Familiarity with industry data standards such as ISA-95 or ISA-88
Experience operating in a hub-and-spoke organizational model with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority

Tips for Your Data Governance Specialist Job Search
Tailor your resume to the framework
Many postings specify a framework by name, DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or TOGAF. Mirror that language in your resume's summary and experience bullets rather than using generic data management terms. Recruiters and ATS systems filter on exact framework references.
Highlight your data catalog tool experience
Hiring managers screen for hands-on experience with specific tools like Collibra, Alation, or Informatica. List the platforms you've configured or administered, not just the ones you've read about, and describe what governance outcomes you drove with each.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists data governance specialist openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Certify before you compete for senior roles
The Certified Data Management Professional credential signals mastery of the DAMA-DMBOK body of knowledge and appears in a significant share of senior postings. Earning it before applying to principal or director roles removes a common screening barrier.
Prepare a governance program case study
Interviewers for data governance roles nearly always ask how you built or improved a governance program from scratch. Prepare a concise example that names the business problem, the policies or standards you introduced, the stakeholders you aligned, and the measurable outcome.
Negotiate scope before negotiating compensation
Data governance roles vary widely in authority, some are advisory and some own policy enforcement. Before discussing compensation, clarify whether the role has data steward reporting lines, budget authority, or executive sponsorship, because scope determines your leverage and your career ceiling.
Data Governance Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most data governance specialists?
JBS INTERNATIONAL, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Citi are hiring the most data governance specialists right now, with openings concentrated in New York, Texas, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Demand is especially high at large financial institutions, health systems, and federal contractors with active data modernization programs.
How many data governance specialist jobs are remote?
About 47% of data governance specialist openings are fully remote or hybrid as of July 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible roles in the data field. Sub-areas focused on policy writing, metadata management, and data stewardship coordination tend to be the most remote-compatible, while roles that require hands-on data architecture work or executive stakeholder alignment are more often tied to an office.
How do you become a data governance specialist?
Start by building foundational knowledge in data management concepts through the DAMA-DMBOK guide, then gain hands-on experience in a data analyst, data steward, or database administrator role where you interact with data quality and documentation. Earning the Certified Data Management Professional credential strengthens your candidacy. Moving into a governance-specific title typically follows two to four years of adjacent data work combined with demonstrated experience writing or enforcing data policies.
Can you get a data governance specialist job with little experience?
Entry-level data governance roles exist, often titled data steward, data quality analyst, or junior data governance analyst, and they typically require a relevant degree plus familiarity with spreadsheets, SQL, and basic data documentation. The most effective way to break in with limited experience is to complete a data catalog tool's free training, volunteer to document data dictionaries in a current role, and apply to organizations that are standing up a governance program for the first time rather than expanding an established one.
What does the data governance specialist interview process look like?
Most hiring processes include a recruiter screen focused on tool experience and industry background, followed by a technical or competency interview where you walk through how you have built or enforced governance policies. A case study or take-home exercise asking you to assess a fictional organization's data maturity is common at mid to senior levels. Final rounds typically involve a panel with data engineering, legal or compliance, and a business unit lead to assess cross-functional communication skills.
Where can I find and apply to data governance specialist jobs?
You can find and apply to data governance specialist jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search for roles that match your experience level, industry preference, and location or remote preference, then apply directly to each listing that fits.
