Data Governance Specialist Jobs in New Jersey: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data governance specialist in New Jersey?
New Jersey does not require a state-issued license to work as a data governance specialist, so the path runs through education and industry credentials. Most roles require a bachelor's degree in information management, data science, or a related field. Earning a Certified Data Management Professional designation from DAMA International or a vendor credential in tools like Collibra strengthens candidacy considerably. New Jersey's pharmaceutical and financial sectors particularly value candidates with domain knowledge in regulated data environments.
Which companies hire data governance specialists in New Jersey?
Companies currently hiring data governance specialists in New Jersey include Virtusa, MUFG, and Pearson, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Jersey's dense concentration of pharmaceutical headquarters, financial services firms, and large healthcare systems means steady, year-round demand for this role across multiple industries.
Which New Jersey cities have the most data governance specialist jobs?
Jersey City, Edison, and Warren account for the largest share of data governance specialist openings in New Jersey. The Newark and Jersey City corridor draws heavy demand from financial services and insurance firms with New York metro operations, while Princeton and its surrounding area reflects the pharmaceutical and life sciences headquarters concentrated along the Route 1 technology corridor.
Are there remote data governance specialist jobs in New Jersey?
Yes, and more than most fields, since data governance work is largely analytical and policy-driven rather than hands-on or site-specific. About 67% of data governance specialist openings tied to New Jersey are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well the role translates to distributed team environments. Policy development, metadata management, and data quality monitoring are the functions most commonly offered remotely.
How can I get hired as a data governance specialist in New Jersey with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving laterally from a data analyst, business analyst, or database administrator role, since New Jersey employers in pharma and financial services routinely promote from those adjacent positions into governance functions. Building a portfolio of data quality documentation or contributing to an open governance framework project demonstrates practical skills. Earning an entry-level Collibra or Informatica certification and targeting associate data steward or data analyst postings at large New Jersey institutions like RWJBarnabas Health or Merck provides a concrete foothold.
Where can I find and apply to data governance specialist jobs in New Jersey?
