Outreach and Community Engagement Specialist — Part-Time

Project Milk Mission is a nonprofit organization providing culturally inclusive breastfeeding education and support to pregnant and postpartum families. We help families access education, encouragement, and community resources to support their infant feeding goals.

About the Position

We are seeking a personable, organized Outreach and Community Engagement Specialist to help expand our reach throughout Mahoning County.

This position will build community partnerships, increase awareness of our services, and connect pregnant and postpartum mothers with breastfeeding classes, monthly support groups, and Safe Sleep While Breastfeeding education.

The specialist will work closely with our breastfeeding education staff. This role focuses on outreach, partnerships, and enrollment.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with healthcare providers, hospitals, OB offices, prenatal clinics, WIC programs, libraries, and community organizations.
• Introduce Project Milk Mission’s services to potential partners and help establish referral connections.
• Share class flyers, educational materials, and registration and referral information.
• Attend community events, health fairs, baby showers, and other outreach opportunities throughout Mahoning County.
• Engage pregnant and postpartum mothers, explain available services, and assist with enrollment.
• Coordinate with breastfeeding education staff to connect families with upcoming classes and support groups.
• Maintain an organized partner contact list and document outreach, follow-up activities, referrals, and enrollment assistance.
• Provide regular updates on outreach progress, community needs, and partnership opportunities.
• Support collection of participation information and feedback for program evaluation and grant reporting.
• Protect participant information and maintain accurate, secure records.

Required Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in public health, social work, human services, communications, business, or a related field is preferred.
• At least two years of experience in community outreach, community engagement, nonprofit programs, family support, or a related role.
• Experience building community relationships, connecting people with services, and maintaining accurate records.
• Strong communication skills and comfort contacting organizations by phone, email, and in person.
• Ability to build respectful relationships with families from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently within a part-time schedule.
• Basic computer skills, including email, online forms, spreadsheets, and virtual meetings.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel to outreach locations throughout Mahoning County.
• Reliable internet access for remote administrative work.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Mahoning County and its community resources.
• Experience working with pregnant or postpartum families.
• Existing relationships with local healthcare providers or community organizations.
• Interest in maternal and infant health and equitable access to services.

Schedule and Travel

This is a remote position with local travel throughout Mahoning County. The position is 15 hours per week. Scheduling will be coordinated around partner availability and community events, with occasional evening or weekend hours.

Approved business mileage will be reimbursed at the applicable federal mileage rate.

Funding

This position is supported by grant funding. Continued employment depends on available funding and program needs.
